Weekend Rain Chances

A slow moving low pressure system will bring rain showers and some thundery downpours to the Finger Lakes this weekend, but it will not be constantly raining.

Stray rain showers will be possible at any time this weekend, morning, day, and night. However, these will be very isolated and generally brief and light.

There are a few times where rain will be more likely, though.

At the time of writing this at 9 AM Saturday morning, an area of showers and downpours will moving northeast out of Pennsylvania toward the southern and eastern Finger Lakes. Rain chances will therefore be higher during the second half of the morning and into the early afternoon for areas roughly east of a Bath to Penn Yan to Geneva to Sodus line.

Some additional showers and storms may pop up late in the afternoon over far western areas, such as the Rochester metro and Genesee Valley.

Most of the region should be rain free through the evening, but there will still likely be a fair bit of cloud cover around.

Scattered showers will increase again after midnight and continue into the early morning hours on Sunday before another lull during the second half of the morning and early afternoon.

Showers and storms will bubble up again Sunday afternoon, though the coverage may not be broad enough that every location sees rain.

With some of Sunday afternoon’s activity containing heavy downpours and slow moving storm cells, rain on Sunday will be feast-or-famine, with some areas seeing little to none, and others seeing perhaps a bit too much.

Scattered showers will linger into the early evening hours before tapering off. Most of Sunday night will be quiet.

The low pressure center will move overhead on Monday, accompanied by more widespread showers. These are expected to move into the northwestern Finger Lakes Monday morning, then overspread the rest of the region during the midday and afternoon hours. Everyone should see rain on Monday.

Rain chances will be very low for the rest of next week and possibly through the weekend as well.

Temperatures will be on the downswing, with upper 70s Saturday, mid 70s Sunday, low 70s Monday, and mid and upper 60s on Tuesday. After that, temperatures will reverse course and warm back toward 80 degrees by next weekend.
