Early Week Weather
A thundery cold front moved through the region last night and will set up a chilly week ahead.
Morning lows to start our Monday are above the seasonal average, but cool air is starting to seep into the region. As the morning goes on, northwest winds will strengthen and become blustery.
As the cool air settles in, cloud cover should also increase this morning. There will be more clouds than sun most of the day, despite the sunny start for most of the region.
Rain will be possible, especially this afternoon, but will be limited to stray, brief showers. Most of the time, it will not be raining in any given location, and some areas will likely get through the afternoon without seeing additional rainfall.
Afternoon highs will range from the mid 50s to mid 60s today. The warmest locations will be along the river valleys from Corning to Binghamton, whereas the coolest locations will be in the higher elevations of the western Southern Tier and Central New York.
Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly clear tonight, allowing temperatures to drop. A shift in the wind to the southwest may prevent it from getting as cold as it could, but there may still be pockets that drop into the 30s across the Southern Tier and into Central New York. Most other areas should stay between 40-45 degrees.
Tuesday will be similar to today, with increasing clouds during the morning and stray showers during the midday and afternoon. The showers look a bit more widespread tomorrow than today, but a few areas may still stray dry.
Winds will be back to the northwest and will be equally blustery as today. High temperatures will only reach or exceed 60 degrees in the typically warmest areas, such as Elmira, Syracuse and Rochester. The rest of the area will stick to the mid and upper 50s.
Tuesday night has a chance to be a couple degrees cooler than tonight, and there could be some patchy frost in the coldest pockets.
Late Week Weather
There will once again be little chance in the day-to-day weather as we go through Wednesday and even Thursday.
Stray showers will occasionally drift through, only lasting brief periods of times when they do. Otherwise, skies will be rather cloudy, but with some breaks of sun.
It will remain chilly, with highs averaging in the upper 50s on Wednesday, but only the mid 50s on Thursday.
Wednesday morning will have similar temperatures and frost chances as Tuesday morning. Thursday morning, however, may slip a couple more degrees. Most areas should be in the upper 30s and frost will be likely in some areas.
The weather will reverse a bit after that, with sunshine and a few clouds for Friday with highs climbing back above 60 degrees.
A few showers will be possible on Saturday, with perhaps a greater chance for rain on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the mid 60s Saturday but returning to the 50s on Sunday.
Rain chances will increase early next week, persisting into the middle of the week. Cool temperatures are likely with some areas possibly even seeing highs only in the 40s. Some warmer weather may await by next weekend, though.
Lastly, Hurricane Milton in the Gulf of Mexico will strike Florida with another serious blow this week. Milton will then move out over the Atlantic, where it will dissipate with no impact on the Finger Lakes region.
