Late Week Weather Forecast
High pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic has expanded north into our region today, bringing much quieter weather to the area.
Skies remain rather cloudy early this morning and a few lingering lake effect flurries are still showing up on radar. No additional snow accumulation is expected before these flurries dissipate.
Clouds should thin as the morning goes on and there is a decent chance for a period of sunshine. However, new clouds from the next weather system should begin to filter in before sunset.
How long the window of time between the two areas of clouds remains open is a bit uncertain this afternoon.
Light winds with speeds around 5 mph will gradually turn from the west to the south today, then will pick up speed this evening. Nighttime wind speeds will be 10-15 mph with the strongest winds over the higher elevations.
Temperatures will range from the mid 30s in the west to the upper 20s in the far east this afternoon. After an initial dip of a few degrees this evening, temperatures will rise again overnight, reaching the low and mid 30s by Friday morning.
As the next system moves in from the southwest, some areas of drizzle or light rain will be possible Friday morning and into the midday hours before transitioning to steadier precipitation.
A few cold pockets may see a little freezing drizzle as a result with a few slick spots on the roads tomorrow morning. Most areas will not have any travel troubles.
Precipitation will turn steady from south to north during the early afternoon, almost exclusively falling as rain as temperatures climb into the upper 30s. A few areas may even hit 40 degrees.
Late in the day, cooler air will start to infiltrate from the north. Rain will turn to snow from north to south toward sunset with light snow persisting through most of the evening.
Snow accumulations will be limited to an inch or two, though a few northern locations could manage as much as three inches.
Weather This Weekend, Next Week
As the snow ends Friday night, temperatures will drop on northerly winds of 5-10 mph. By Saturday morning, most areas will be in the low 20s.
The temperature will not move much on Saturday and will probably end up a couple degrees cooler in the afternoon than in the morning.
Light northerly flow will continue, which should bring some lake effect clouds into the area. Snow, however, is generally not expected. How much sun we may see on Saturday is a bit uncertain.
A period of calm winds followed by light southeast winds Saturday night should result in decreasing clouds and a chilly night. Expect lows in the upper 0s and low 10s.
Winds will become more southerly and increase substantially on Sunday with higher elevations gusting over 40 mph.
Warmer air will move in on these winds with afternoon temperatures in the low and mid 30s. A few rain and snow showers will be possible, but most of the precipitation will remain light.
Temperatures will continue to climb Sunday night, reaching the upper 30s by Monday morning, even with wind speeds dropping.
Morning will reach the low and mid 40s. A few late day and evening rain or snow showers will be possible, but most of the day will be dry.
Temperatures will take a step back on Tuesday with lows in the 20s and highs around 30 degrees. Northerly flow will keep clouds in the picture, but some breaks of sun may be possible.
Another rain snow mix is possible toward the middle of next week with highs in the mid 30s.
Next Thursday will be a milder day with highs at least in the 40s. However, there is an opportunity for a much warmer day if everything comes together properly.
Steadier, cooler temperatures are expected next weekend and into the following week with highs mainly in the 20s.
