Taste of Winter
An area of low pressure will meander northeastward today from Lake Ontario into northern New York and eastern Canada.
Snow showers are already scattered about the region this morning and will persist for most of the day.
In general, northern areas will see more snow in the air than southern areas as Lake Ontario contributes additional moisture.
Accumulations should be limited to a coating on grassy and elevated surfaces for most areas. Some higher elevations could see an inch or so, especially across portions of Cayuga, Onondaga, and Cortland counties.
The wind will likely have a large impact on day-to-day activities, though.
Northwest winds will blow with sustained speeds over 20 mph with gusts around 45 mph.
With afternoon highs in the upper 20s and low 30s, wind chill values will mainly be in the 10s throughout the day.
Snow and wind will taper off late this afternoon and early this evening. A few stray lake effect snow showers will develop on lighter winds overnight, possibly lingering into the very early morning hours Wednesday.
Temperatures will start off in the low and mid 20s tomorrow with a few pockets in the upper 10s. Winds will turn more to the west, remaining light, and high pressure will build in.
Sunshine will increase during the morning with a mix of sun and fair weather clouds most of the day. These clouds will dissipate in the late afternoon, leaving a period of clear skies into the evening.
Temperatures will still be on the cool side for this time of the year, but not nearly as biting as today, topping out in the low 40s.

Unsettled Weather
A series of weather disturbances will impact the area late this week and into the weekend with several active days.
Clouds will increase Wednesday night, and by Thursday morning, precipitation will be moving back in from the southwest.
Much of this will start as snow with morning lows in the low 30s, but rain will gradually mix in and take over through the morning hours.
Rain showers will stick around Thursday afternoon before tapering to just a few stray spits of rain Thursday night.
Thursday’s temperatures will top out in the mid 40s with nighttime temperatures in the mid 30s.
Rain will be scattered throughout Friday with a fair bit of dry time, especially in the later morning and early afternoon hours.
Precipitation will move back in from the south Friday night, possibly turning widespread and steady by Saturday morning.
It may get cold enough for higher elevations across the southern half of the region to turn over to snow Friday night and Saturday morning. The potential for some localized accumulations will need to be monitored.
Any snow will go back to rain Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise to the mid 40s.
Sunday and Monday currently look dry with warming temperatures. Highs Sunday will be near 50 degrees while Monday as a chance at reaching the 60s.
There may be some unsettled weather for the middle of next week, knocking temperatures back down a bit. The weather is too uncertain beyond then to speculate much at this time.
