Early Week Weather
The weather this week will start off mild thanks to a warm front lifting through the area this morning.
A small band of showers is accompanying the front. This band may weaken as it encounters drier air over the eastern Finger Lakes, but no one should be surprised to see a brief period of rain during the early to mid morning hours.
Skies will generally be more cloudy than not, though thin spots and occasional gaps in the clouds will allow for partial sunshine.
South winds will be steady, but not too strong, with gusts staying under 30 mph.
The southerly winds will bring in the warmer air with most areas getting into the low or mid 60s this afternoon. A few of the higher elevations end up just shy of 60 degrees.
Another area of showers and perhaps a couple of rumbles of thunder will be possible this evening and into the early overnight. At any given time, most areas will not be seeing rain, but over the course of the evening, most areas should see a little.
Winds will turn to the southwest overnight with lows in the mid 40s.
Showers will increase Tuesday morning and especially into the afternoon. Cold air aloft will support on and off scattered rain cells, a few of which may have some small hail or a rumble of thunder.
Winds will turn to the west and increase through the morning and peaking during the afternoon. Gusts of 40-50 mph are likely with the strongest winds over the Bristol Hills and higher elevations west of I-390.
Temperatures will top out in the low 50s but will start to drop during the afternoon. By the evening, rain showers will start to mix with or turn to snow showers. As the precipitation transitions to snow, it should become less showery and more widespread.
Steady snow is expected for a time on Wednesday, especially over the northern and eastern Finger Lakes, where Lake Ontario will be able to enhance the moisture on northwest winds. The snow will gradually taper off during the afternoon, but some areas may still be seeing snow at sunset.
Snow accumulations are expected, especially over higher elevations where locally a couple inches will be possible. Near-lake areas and the Southern Tier should see very little to no accumulation.
Temperatures may reach 40 degrees in some areas on Wednesday with wind gusts of 30-40 mph.

Warm Weather Returns
The low pressure responsible for the snow on Wednesday will quickly move out as high pressure builds in for Thursday.
Skies should be mostly sunny throughout the day with just a few thin clouds showing up late.
Winds will be out of the northwest, but notably lighter. Temperatures will start near 30 degrees and top out around 50 degrees.
Temperatures will continue to rise on Friday with highs reaching the low 60s. Skies will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers passing through. Some rumbles of thunder may be possible late in the day and into Friday night.
Scattered showers and a few rumbles will persist into Saturday as well.
Temperatures Saturday will start in the 50s and top out in the 60s but will drop late in the day as winds shift behind a cold front. The wind on Saturday may be briefly blustery as well.
Sunday looks dry with light winds and some sunshine mixing with clouds. Highs will be in the low and mid 50s.
A warm weather pattern is expected next week, though there is uncertainty in just how warm it may be. At least some days in the 60s seem like a reasonable, somewhat conservative early speculation. This milder pattern may take us through the end of the month at least.
