Early Week Weather Forecast

Temperatures will jump today thanks to southerly winds ahead of an area of low pressure scooting across southern Canada.

Skies are clear across much of the region early this morning, with a few passing clouds across the Southern Tier. The sunshine will aid the southerly winds in causing temperatures to climb rapidly through the morning and into the afternoon.

Typically warmer areas, such as around I-90, the Genesee Valley, and the broad valleys of the Southern Tier, and other urban areas such as Ithaca should be around 90 degrees this afternoon. Most other areas should be into the upper 80s.

Heat index values will reach the 90-95 degree range for most. A few localized areas could see higher values.

Clouds will start to increase during the afternoon, and late in the day, some scattered showers and storms will start to pop up. While these will be most likely across the western half of the region, even areas to the east may see an isolated shower or storm.

Rain will become more widespread across the region this evening with embedded thunderstorms. Not everyone will end up seeing rain this evening, but most should.

Localized downpours will be possible and a few strong wind gusts cannot be ruled out. Flooding and severe weather are generally not expected, though.

Rain will taper to a few stray spits during the overnight and into Tuesday morning. It will be a warm and muggy night with lows only around 70 degrees.

A few more thunderstorms may try to fire up Tuesday afternoon as the cold front moves through. Morning clouds may put a limit on how much can develop, though.

Temperatures will remain warm, and humidity will remain elevated, with highs in the mid 80s. Fresher air will build in late behind the cold front, and lows Tuesday night will be into the low and mid 60s with a few pockets of upper 50s.

Wednesday will be a quiet day with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the low 80s. Humidity will be comfortable with light west and northwest winds holding dewpoints in the upper 50s and low 60s.

4th of July Holiday Weather

Another quick moving system will pass through the area on Thursday. Scattered showers and storms will be possible, but it is still a bit early to work out the fine details.

Most areas will not reach 80 degrees on Thursday, but many will be close.

Thursday’s rain chances will be the result of another cold front. The front should be out of the area by Friday, the 4th of July, leaving us with another quiet and comfortable, if not a touch cool day.

Morning lows should be down into the 50s with afternoon highs in the mid 70s. Humidity will be low again with dewpoints solidly in the 50s.

Quiet weather will continue into Saturday, though south winds will return with a jump in temperature. Look for afternoon highs to be well into the 80s. Humidity will remain on the low side, though.

By Sunday, we will be back where we are starting the week with highs pushing toward 90 degrees. At this time, dry weather looks likely on Sunday as well.

The next front will move through early next week with a chance for some showers and storms. Temperatures will slowly retreat, with 80s likely during the early week and highs near or slightly below 80 degrees thereafter.
