Clouds Linger Late
The low pressure system that brought the needed rainfall to the area yesterday had dissipated over the region, leaving behind some thick cloud cover.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy through the morning and into the afternoon with a gradual clearing late in the day.
It will actually be Hurricane Erin that will bring the clearing in, ironically. Northeast winds influenced by Erin will blow steadily throughout the day, bringing in dry air from northern New England and eastern Canada.
With the clouds and northeasterly flow, temperatures will be cool again today. Most areas will end up in the low 70s, with some mid 70s along and north of the Thruway and upper 60s in higher elevations.
Skies will become mostly clear tonight with winds turning mostly calm. Overnight lows will be in the low 50s across the south with mid 50s to the north. There will probably be a couple cold pockets that slip into the upper 40s.
Friday will be sunny with small fair-weather clouds developing during the daytime heating. Winds will remain calm or light and variable.
The increase in sunshine and loss of the northerly flow will allow temperatures to rise, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.
A light south wind will pick up Friday night and strengthen to near 10 mph on Saturday. This will supply additional warming, with lows Saturday morning between 55-60 degrees and afternoon highs mainly in the mid 80s.
Saturday will also have a mix of sun and clouds with no rain expected. Humidity levels will be tolerable with dewpoints climbing into the low and mid 60s.

Next Cold Front
Our next weather system will move into the area on Sunday but may linger for several days as it stalls out.
The first chances for rain will come after midnight Saturday night when a couple stray showers or storms may pop up. Most areas will probably not see rain during this time period.
More widespread activity is expected to develop over the area Sunday afternoon. While the atmosphere will only have modest levels of fuel to work with, there will be some wind energy to work with. Any storms that do get going could pose a localized gusty wind threat.
Temperatures on Sunday will start out in the low and mid 60s with highs around 80 degrees.
Scattered showers are expected on Monday as the front lingers over the region. The chances for thunderstorms should be lower with cooler temperatures building in. Morning lows will be in the mid 50s and afternoon highs in the low 70s.
Tuesday may end up being a cool, showery day as well, though the confidence in the forecast is lower by that point. Highs may not reach 70 degrees.
Wednesday morning could see widespread 40s for low temperatures with a few more lingering showers. Afternoon highs will likely stick just under 70 degrees, though some sun may come out later in the day.
Rain chances should become low late next week with temperatures rising to near or just above 70 degrees. Slightly warmer temperatures will be possible for Labor Day Weekend.
