Cool Weather Pattern
A northwest flow will keep temperatures cool with some pop-up showers, especially during the afternoon.
Like yesterday, many areas are starting the day with sunshine. As the daytime heating cycle kicks in, the chilly air aloft will help trigger clouds and scattered showers.
The rain will probably be a bit less common today compared to yesterday. And while an isolated rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out, that, too, should be less than yesterday.
Most of the time it will not be raining, and individual showers should be short-lived.
Northwest winds will blow at speeds up to 10 mph, holding temperatures down. Highs in the 60s will be as commonplace as highs in the 70s today, with most places not far from 70 degrees on either side.
Skies will be partly cloudy tonight with some lake effect rain showers, particularly after midnight. Many areas will drop into the 40s, with some low 50s near Cayuga and Seneca Lake, around Syracuse and Rochester, and near Lake Ontario.
Spits of lake effect rain will persist into Wednesday morning, followed by a few more daytime heating induced showers in the afternoon. There should be less rain tomorrow than today.
Northwest winds will persist, and temperatures will likely end up a degree or two cooler than today.
Skies should clear out Wednesday night with winds turning to a southwesterly or southerly direction. It will remain cool, though, with overnight lows in the mid and upper 40s across the southern half of the region and near or just slightly above 50 degrees to the north.

Labor Day Weekend Weather Forecast
Thursday will be a quiet day with southerly winds providing a slight boost in temperatures. Most areas should end up in the mid 70s during the afternoon.
Clouds will mix with sunshine but will gradually increase and thicken throughout the day. No rain is expected until the overnight hours as a cold front approaches.
Rain showers will continue into Friday with winds turning back to the northwest as low pressure tracks across northern New York.
Afternoon highs Friday may struggle to even reach 65 degrees in some areas, with even the warmest areas still ending up well short of 70 degrees.
A few scattered showers will continue Friday night and into Saturday morning. Temperatures will reach their coldest point of the week at this time, with low 40s across the Southern Tier and mid 40s to the north. The typically warmer lake shores may stay in the upper 40s.
Saturday afternoon should dry out with highs again in the mid 60s. Northwest winds will persist, possibly eclipsing 10 mph at times.
Sunday and Labor Day itself look a bit milder, with highs in the low and mid 70s, respectively. Neither day looks wet with a mix of sun and clouds.
The first week of September generally looks dry with temperatures slowly adding a couple degrees each day. By the end of the week, some places may be able to get to or slightly above 80 degrees.
