Mid-Week Weather Forecast
Persistent northwesterly flow continues to hold temperatures down with some scattered showers.
Showers this morning south-southeast of Lake Ontario are being caused by lake effect processes. The showers are coming in small clusters as they move south-southeast away from the lake.
As the morning goes on and the temperature difference between the lake and the air lessens, these showers should mostly come to an end.
A few more pop-up showers will be possible during the afternoon hours thanks to the daytime heating cycle.
Otherwise, skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. The northwest wind will blow with speeds around 10 mph.
Most places will not reach 70 degrees today, with the best chance coming along and north of I-90 and in the broad, more urbanized valleys of the Southern Tier. Upper 60s will be common, with mid 60s in the higher elevations.
Skies will clear this evening, though some occasion thin clouds will be possible through the overnight. Winds will turn to the southwest during the evening.
The south wind will not do much warming, though, with overnight lows in the mid 40s across the Southern Tier and into Cortland County. Lows near or just above 50 degrees are expected near the lakes and across the northern parts of the region.
Temperatures will rise steadily Thursday morning and into the afternoon, with most areas ending up in the mid 70s.
Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds transitioning to mostly cloudy during the afternoon. A few showers may even sneak in before the sun sets, especially west of Seneca Lake.
Southwest winds will be around 10 mph, but strong in the Genesee Valley up toward Rochester.

Labor Day Weekend Weather Forecast
Rain will move through the area Thursday evening and overnight as a cold front moves through.
By sunrise, most of the rain will be moving east, and winds will have turned to the northwest. Overnight lows will be in the low and mid 50s with a few 40s in Steuben and Allegany counties.
Scattered showers will be possible throughout Friday, though like the last few days, it should not be raining all the time.
Northwest winds around 10 mph will return, as will the cool air. Most areas will see highs between 60-65 degrees. A few of the hills in the western Southern Tier could conceivably have a high in the upper 50s.
Friday night will be chilly, with widespread 40s throughout the region. A few parts of the western Southern Tier and Cortland County may even flirt with slipping below 40 degrees.
A couple morning lake effect showers are possible on Saturday before dry air and the daytime heating cycle cut those off. Highs Saturday will be in the mid and upper 60s. Northwest winds will remain at around 10 mph.
Sunday and Monday look quiet and comfortable with highs in the low and mid 70s, respectively. Morning lows will still be cool, with mid 40s for Sunday and upper 40s for Monday.
Winds will be lighter at this time, staying northerly at around 5 mph on Sunday but light and variable on Monday.
Rain is not expected next week until some showers late Thursday into Friday along a cold front. Ahead of the front, temperatures will continue to creep upward, and a few places may be able to break 80 degrees before the front arrives.
Next weekend looks cooler with a return to the 60s possible for a day or two before temperatures bounce back to the 70s.
