Cold Front
An area of low pressure will track across southern Canada, northern New York, and into New England over the next 36 hours.
A cold front currently extends west from the low across the Upper Great Lakes. This front will pivot to the southeast, moving through the Finger Lakes overnight tonight.
Out ahead of the front, clear skies and light winds have the region off to a chilly start. However, a steady southwest wind will help temperatures climb quickly today.
Sunshine this morning will also help the warming temperatures, and by the afternoon, many will be into the mid 70s.
Clouds will gradually thicken and increase this afternoon, and a few showers may even start to show up during the second half of the afternoon.
Most of the rain will fall during the evening and early overnight hours as a band of widespread showers moves into the area. The rain should not be overly heavy, with most areas seeing between a tenth and a third of an inch (0.1-0.3 inches).
The cold front will clear the region by the predawn hours with northwest winds taking over. Most areas will stay above 50 degrees tonight anyway, thanks to the clouds and timing of the front.
Friday will be like several other days this week with clouds, some breaks of sun, and sporadic showers. It will not be a washout of a day, and some areas may not see any additional rain.
Northwest winds will increase to speeds slightly over 10 mph. Cool air will pour in, limiting highs to the low and mid 60s. A few hilltops may even fail to hit 60 degrees.
Skies will clear Friday night, though a few lingering lake effect clouds and spits of rain may be possible near and southeast of Lake Ontario.
Widespread 40s are expected overnight, and a few upper 30s may even show up in the Southern Tier. A few lakeshore locations will stay near 50 degrees.

Labor Day Weekend Weather
Saturday will generally be a quiet day with sun mixing with small fair weather clouds.
The only chance for rain will be a stray spit of lake effect rain during the morning hours southeast of Lake Ontario.
Northwest winds will remain in place with speeds similar to Friday, around or just over 10 mph.
With the chilly start and continued northwest flow, temperatures will not be much warmer on Saturday. Most areas will stick to the mid and upper 60s, though a few of the typically warmer urban centers such as Rochester, Syracuse, Dansville, and Elmira may briefly reach 70 degrees.
Saturday night will again be cold with clear skies and calm winds. Widespread 40s are once again expected with most areas ending up close to Friday night’s temperatures.
Temperatures will start to rebound from there as we lose the northwest wind. Sunday’s winds should be light and variable, and temperatures will respond by reaching the low 70s. Skies will be a mix of sun and small clouds.
Labor Day, Monday, will continue the trend. Morning temperatures will start in the mid and upper 40s with a few low 50s. Afternoon highs should reach the mid 70s. It will remain dry and sunny.
Tuesday will be more of the same, with most areas starting out around 50 degrees. Afternoon highs will again be in the mid 70s, though a few places will push into the upper 70s as well.
Sunny, dry weather should continue into Wednesday as well, with more areas seeing upper 70s and a few flirting with 80 degrees.
The next chance for rain will be along a cold front later Thursday into Friday. That should knock temperatures back a bit next weekend, but it shouldn’t be as cold as tonight’s cold front will make it.
