A cold front will come through the area Thursday with some snow showers, setting up lake effect Thursday night along with hazardous wind chills.

Early Morning (3-7 AM)

Clouds with some breaks of clearing.

A stray snow shower across the northeastern quadrant of the region.

Southwest winds 5-10 mph.

Temperatures ranging through the single digits, warmer in the north and colder to the south. A few pockets may slip below zero. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Morning (7-11 AM)

Some early breaks of sun, but getting cloudy overall.

Snow showers and perhaps a brief squall, mainly in Monroe, Wayne, Cayuga, and Onondaga counties and neighboring areas.

Southwest winds 5-10 mph.

Temperatures rising to the upper 0s and low 10s. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Midday (11 AM-1 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

Scattered snow showers and perhaps a brief squall across the northern and eastern halves of the region. Just a few flurries to the southwest. Brief travel disruptions possible.

Winds turning to the northwest and increasing to near 15 mph.

Temperatures increasing slightly to the low and mid 10s. Wind chills -5 to +5.

Afternoon (1-4 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

Scattered snow showers and perhaps a brief squall across the northern and eastern halves of the region. Just a few flurries to the southwest. Brief travel disruptions possible.

Northwest winds at 10-15 mph.

Temperatures holding steady in the low and mid 10s until retreating slightly late. Wind chills -5 to +5.

Late Afternoon (4-6 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

Scattered snow showers and perhaps a brief squall across the northern and eastern halves of the region. Just a few flurries to the southwest. Brief travel disruptions possible.

Northwest winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures dropping 5 to 10 degree range. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Evening (6-10 PM)

Cloudy in the lake effect areas, some breaks in the clouds south.

Areas of lake effect snow, some heavy, over Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties. Locally 4″+. Only stray flurries elsewhere.

Northwest winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures ranging through the 0s. Wind chills 0 to -10.

Overnight (11 PM-3 AM)

Cloudy in the lake effect areas, some breaks in the clouds south.

Lake effect snow weakens slightly and moves south, mainly impacting Wayne, Cayuga, western Onondaga, and portions of northern Cortland and Tompkins counites. Locally a couple inches of accumulation. Only stray flurries elsewhere.

Northwest winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures dropping below zero in many southern areas, staying in the low and mid 0s to the north. Wind chills 0 to -5 north of the Thruway, -5 to -15 elsewhere with colder pockets to -20.
