Two relatively quick moving bands of precipitation are expected today: some snow in the morning along a warm front, and heavier, mixed precipitation during the late afternoon and early evening along a cold front.

Early Morning (3-7 AM)

Mostly cloudy.

No precipitation expected.

South winds around 5 mph.

Temperatures rising to the mid and upper 10s.

Morning (7-11 AM)

Mostly cloudy.

A period of snow, especially across the northern Finger Lakes. A quick coating to an inch of accumulation with some brief travel impacts.

South winds 5-10 mph.

Temperatures rising to the mid and upper 20s.

Midday (11 AM-1 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

Snow moves into and then exits the eastern Finger Lakes. A quick coating to an inch of accumulation with some brief travel impacts.

South winds 10-15 mph.

Temperatures rising to the low and mid 30s west of Cayuga Lake with upper 20s hanging on to the east.

Afternoon (1-4 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

No precipitation expected.

South winds 10-15 mph.

Temperatures in the mid and locally upper 30s west of Cayuga Lake with low 30s to the east.

A band of precipitation, some heavy, drops southeast across the region. Rain most likely to the north and west, with a mix of snow and freezing rain to the east and south. Some travel impacts, especially as the sun begins to set. The cut-off between wet and wintry precipitation will be hard to pinpoint and may vary to a great degree over small areas. Generally speaking, though, Cayuga-Schuyler-Chemung counties and eastward have the best chance for wintry precipitation.

South winds 10-15 mph, turning west and southwest over the western half of the region.

Temperatures in the low and mid 30s, coldest in the east.

Evening (6-10 PM)

Mostly cloudy.

Lingering showers of mixed precipitation, especially east of Seneca Lake. Snow more likely across Cayuga and Onondaga counties, freezing drizzle more likely south of those areas. Again, precipitation type may vary greatly over small distances.

Winds turning to the west around 10 mph.

Low 30s becoming widespread, but not getting any colder.

Overnight (11 PM-3 AM)

Mostly cloudy.

Scattered snow showers. Locally an inch or two closer to Lake Ontario.

Northwest winds 10-15 mph.

Temperatures dipping to around or slightly below 30 degrees.
