Temperatures will remain very warm Tuesday and Wednesday, but will then turn back to the 30s following a thundery cold front late Wednesday. Several days of blustery to strong winds are expected late this week and into the weekend.

Tuesday

What: Increasing clouds; A few showers

Clouds will very gradually increase today with a few stray showers around this afternoon. It will remain warm with highs well into the 60s for most areas. Winds will be light, which will allow a cool lake breeze to develop off Lake Ontario, reducing temperatures north of the Thruway. Showers will increase tonight with northern areas remaining cooler than southern areas.

Wednesday

What: Occasional showers and thunderstorms.

Impacts: Small potential for an early evening line of stronger storms.

While much of Wednesday will not have rain, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will be possible. A first round is possible during the morning, with a second, more widespread round during the middle of the afternoon. There will probably be some sort of third round in the early evening, but whether this is limited to a few stray showers, or becomes a more organized thunderstorm event, is less certain. The overall probability for severe weather is low, but not zero. Strong winds would be the primary threat should everything come together.

It will remain warm through the day, but once the cold front moves through during the evening, temperatures will drop rapidly. Southwest winds will be blustery during the day, then turning to the northwest and possibly increasing in speed.

Thursday

What: Maybe an early flurry. Windy.

Impacts: Wind gusts over 35 mph.

Thursday will generally be a dry day with increasing sun. There may be a lingering flurry early in the morning, though. Temperatures will hold steady in the low and mid 30s, but with the wind, it will feel like the 20s… some forty degrees colder than the previous day. Northwest winds will remain blustery through the day but will turn much lighter after sunset.

Friday

What: Strong south winds. A few rain, snow showers.

Impacts: Wind gusts of 40-50 mph. A few power outages.

Low pressure will pass to our northwest on Friday, leading to another increase in southerly winds. Gusts over 40 mph will be common, and a few gusts over 50 mph are not out of the question. Snow showers will be possible in the morning, turning to rain showers in the afternoon as temperatures push at least into the upper 30s.

Saturday

What: Blustery morning winds

Strong winds will remain Friday night into early Saturday, though they should not be as intense as on Friday. Wind speeds will gradually decrease on Saturday and should be nearly calm Saturday evening. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds and no significant precipitation is expected. Temperatures will be in the 30s.

Sunday

What: Another round of wind.

Southerly winds will once again increase on Sunday and continue through Sunday night. These winds may match Friday with gusts of 40-50 mph and locally higher. An early morning warm front will bring a period of snow, followed by afternoon highs pushing toward 50 degrees. Some travel concerns may be raised for Sunday morning.

Next Week

Temperatures will take a dip early in the week, bottoming out on Tuesday with highs struggling to reach 30 degrees. The latter part of the week should see warming temperatures, but just how warm remains to be seen. There should be much less wind next week with several days of dry weather likely.
