Temperatures will remain on the cool side for the next few days, generally running 5-10 degrees below the seasonal averages. The best chance for rain will be early Friday morning, but even that should be brief and light. Mother’s Day is looking dry at this point in time. Next week will bring more of the same, but the long range forecasting is showing a potential change to warmer weather.
Thursday
What: Sun and clouds. A few late showers.
After a sunny but cool start, skies will become mixed with numerous fair weather clouds developing over the course of the morning and into the afternoon. A few stray showers will pop up late in the day. These will be brief and light, but not all areas will see rain. A few showers will linger into the evening before clouds break up more after midnight.
Afternoon highs will be in the low 50s. Northwest winds will be around 10 mph. Mid and upper 30s are expected tonight, leading to some patchy frost. As usual, topography will be a factor, but the southern half of the region will generally be cooler than the north.
Friday
What: Morning showers.
A small weather system will bring an area of showers through during the morning hours. A few wet snowflakes over higher elevations cannot be totally ruled out, either. By noon, the area should be dry with a mix of sun and clouds through the afternoon.
Winds will be light from the west at around 5 mph. Afternoon highs will be a couple degrees warmer than today, mostly in the mid 50s. Winds will turn southerly Friday night and clouds will increase, holding temperatures mostly in the 40s.
Saturday
What: Maybe a few showers.
A weather system will pass to the south on Saturday. A few showers may make it this far north, with the chances for rain decreasing from south to north across the region. Anything that falls should be light and brief, and many areas may end up dry.
South winds around 10 mph will push highs to near 60 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will then drop only to the upper 40s as the chances for rain showers increases from a second system passing to our northwest.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds.
While there is still some uncertainty, at this time it looks as though Mother’s Day will end up dry. Expect a mix of sun and clouds with steady west-northwest winds. The strongest winds, upwards of 15 mph, will be along and north of the Thruway. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 50s. Nighttime temperatures will be around 40 degrees.
Monday
What: A few scattered showers.
Monday will have a mix of sun and clouds and a few scattered showers. The best chance for some rain will be over the western half of the region, but in the end, most areas may end up staying dry. Temperatures will continue to retreat, with highs in the low 50s. Overnight lows will reach the mid and upper 30s with pockets of frost possible.
Tuesday
What: Scattered showers.
Tuesday will have a higher chance for some scattered showers. At this time, it does not look like a steady, all day rain, though, and there is a chance some areas may stay dry. Temperatures will most likely be in the mid 50s, or somewhere near there.
Wednesday
What: Sun and clouds.
Temperatures will likely start to nudge upward a bit by Wednesday with highs in the upper half of the 50s. No rain is expected at this time, but given the overall pattern, that could still change to a few stray showers.
Late Next Week & Beyond
Not much is expected to change through next weekend with temperatures generally remaining a bit cool with some chances for showers. As we head into the following week, however, more substantial changes could be afoot with a shift to warmer and possibly a bit drier weather.
