A pair of cold fronts and a meandering low pressure system will knock temperatures down and keep them cool through the weekend. However, rain chances will be limited to mainly light, sporadic showers, and some areas may make it into next week without seeing any rain at all.
Wednesday
What:Â Sun and clouds. Maybe a stray spit of rain.
A weak cold front will pass through the area this morning. A stray spit of rain cannot be ruled out during the peak heating hours of the afternoon, mainly over the Southern Tier. Otherwise, there will be varying degrees and types of clouds mixing with and, at times, filtering the sunshine. Temperatures will be warmest in the Southern Tier, where a few areas should still reach 80 degrees. Most will top out in the mid and upper 70s with slightly cooler air near Lake Ontario. Skies will become mostly clear tonight with lows mainly in the low 50s.
Thursday
What:Â Sun and clouds. A couple stray showers.
Another small front will pass through on Thursday. There is a slightly higher chance for a couple pop-up showers associated with this, but the majority of the region should still stay dry. Any rain that does fall will likely be brief and light and possibly not even enough to totally wet the pavement. The highest chance for rain will be from the mid morning through the early afternoon. Winds will turn to the north-northwest and increase, with a few gusts over the southeastern corner of the region around or over 30 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 60s on average, with nighttime temperatures in the upper 40s with both cooler and warmer pockets.
Friday
What: Sun and clouds
High pressure will build in again for Friday, keeping the weather dry and sunny with a few clouds from time to time. Winds will be from the west and generally lighter than on Thursday, though wind speeds will increase late in the day. Temperatures have a decent chance at reaching the low 70s during the afternoon. Clouds will increase with some chances for showers overnight and possibly as early as Friday evening.
Saturday
What: A few showers
There will be a chance for a few rain showers Saturday, especially during the morning. The position and track of a low pressure system over New England will determine how many showers make it into our region, and how much sun we see. The further west, the lower the chances for rain and the higher the chances for sun. Northwest winds will increase, with gusts over 30 mph possible, depending on the location of the low. Temperatures will cool with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. Saturday night will see most areas falling well into the 40s, but there is currently no risk for 30s or any frost.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds
Sunday currently looks dry, but the low over New England will still be nearby enough to cast some uncertainty about the forecasting holding. Northwest winds will remain in place but with lighter speeds than on Saturday. Temperatures should reach the mid 60s as long as the low moves east and allows for a mix of sun and clouds.
Monday
What: A few showers
The meandering low near New England may ingest another small weather system, pulling it through our area on Monday with a few showers. Like Thursday and Saturday, the rain is expected to remain scattered and light, so some areas could easily get through all three of these days without any rain at all. Temperatures will remain in the mid 60s.
Tuesday
What: Sunny
High pressure should nudge the New England low even further away on Tuesday, leaving sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s.
Extended Forecast
Temperatures should rebound into the low and mid 70s later next week and through next weekend. Rain chances are uncertain, but generally look lower during next week than next weekend or the following week. Temperatures as we head toward the middle third of June look a bit warmer with increasing chances for reaching the 80s.
