After a cloudy start to the day, sunshine will gradually increase Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday looks sunny and warmer with highs in the mid 80s. A few showers and storms are possible Thursday and especially Friday as the next cold front comes through, setting up a pleasant weekend.

Tuesday

What: Increasing sun.

A few lingering showers are over parts of the Finger Lakes early Tuesday morning. These should dissipate by the mid to late morning. Sunshine will gradually increase through the afternoon and the day should end with mostly clear skies. Clear skies will persist through the nighttime areas, except where some patchy fog may develop. Afternoon highs will be in the mid and upper 70s. Some low 80s are possible north of the Thruway, where the sun will come out sooner. Nighttime temperatures will be in the low and mid 60s. Winds today will from the east at 5-10 mph.

 

Wednesday

What: Sun and clouds.

Wednesday looks quiet with sun and fair weather clouds. A stray shower late in the afternoon over the western half of the region cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will warm into the mid 80s for most areas. Dewpoints will be in the mid 60s, so it will feel a bit muggy. Winds will be from the south around 5 mph. Nighttime skies will be mostly clear, though some thin clouds may drift through from time to time. Lows will be in the mid and upper 60s.

 

Thursday

What: Maybe a few afternoon storms.

Most areas will probably be dry on Thursday. During the later afternoon, a few storm cells may pop up, mainly over the eastern half of the region. Temperatures will remain in the mid 80s with dewpoints in the upper 60s. Winds will be southwest 5-10 mph. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

 

Friday

What: A better chance for storms.

A cold front will move through on Friday, making precipitation is more likely than on Thursday. That being said, the timing of the front is still a bit uncertain, and a morning frontal passage is possible. This would limit the precipitation and make the southern areas more favored than northern areas. Stay tuned as these fine details get resolved over the coming days.

Temperatures will take a step back, topping out in the upper 70s. It will be muggy with upper 60s dewpoints, though these may start to drop later in the afternoon. Winds will turn from the southwest early to the northwest late with 5-10 mph speeds.

Friday night should be cloudy with a few spits of rain. Lows will be in the mid 60s.

 

Saturday

What: Maybe an early shower.

A couple stray showers may be possible early on Saturday. Dry conditions and clearing skies should take over before noon and persist through the afternoon. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s with a low humidity. Winds will be out of the north around 10 mph.

Saturday night will be clear with lows in the upper 50s and low 60s.

 

Sunday

What: Sun and clouds.

High pressure will pass overhead on Sunday, keeping winds light and variable. Sunshine will be abundant with just some thin clouds and a few fair weather clouds. Temperatures will return to the low 80s, but humidity will remain comfortably low. Sunday night will have some thin clouds with lows in the mid 60s.

 

Monday

What: Maybe a shower or storm.

Monday’s weather is uncertain, but there is a chance for a few showers or storms to pop up. Temperatures will make it into the lower half of the 80s with humidity increasing. Winds will be from the west and southwest at 10-15 mph.

 

Rest of Next Week

A typical summertime pattern will continue next week with highs mainly between 75-85 degrees and some small chances for scattered showers or storms. There may be a better chance for rain later in the week or next weekend.
