Scattered thunderstorms, some strong to severe, are likely this afternoon. The eastern half of the region has a higher threat from thunderstorms than areas further west. This activity should clear out late in the afternoon, and skies should become partly cloudy to mostly clear overnight for the lunar eclipse. A stray shower cannot be ruled out Friday, but otherwise it should be dry through the weekend. A warm, muggy, and unsettled week is ahead next week, though the fine details of when and how much rain will fall remain unclear.

Thursday
What: Sun and clouds, showers and storms.
A small band of scattered showers is moving through the Finger Lakes early Thursday morning. Not all will see rain this morning, and those that do will see only a brief period of rainfall. The rest of the morning will have a mix of clouds and some sun, with sunshine increasing later in the morning and into the midday. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s with dewpoints in the upper half of the 60s, setting the stage for more activity this afternoon.
A few stray showers and storms may start to pop up by the early afternoon, but the highest chance for showers and storms will come between about 2 and 6 PM. The eastern half of the region still has a higher chance for showers and storms this afternoon than areas further west. A few of the storms may become strong to severe with strong winds, perhaps some hail, and frequent lightning. I would expect a few severe thunderstorm warnings to be needed, and some areas may be placed under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Thunderstorms should move east by the late afternoon. A stray shower cannot be ruled out into the early evening hours. Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly clear, giving us at least a chance at seeing some of the lunar eclipse tonight. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and low 60s.
Friday
What: Sun and clouds. A stray shower.
Most areas will remain dry on Friday, with just a few very brief, sporadic showers. These will be most likely from the mid-morning to the midday or early afternoon. Otherwise, there will be some sun poking out between clouds in the morning with increasing sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the mid 70s, with dewpoints in the low and mid 60s. Winds will be from the north-northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Friday night will be cool with lows in the low and mid 50s and valley fog.
Saturday
What: Sun and clouds.
Saturday should be a dry day with a mix of sun and clouds. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 70s, dewpoints will fall back to the 50s, and winds will variable and light with speeds around 5 mph. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds.
Dry weather will persist into Sunday with the typical mix of sun and clouds. Light south and southwest winds will push highs into the low 80s with dewpoints around or just over 60 degrees. There is a small chance for a shower during the nighttime hours with overnight lows in the mid 60s.
Monday
What: Perhaps a few showers.
Monday is a bit uncertain with a chance for some scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm. In this case, highs will top out around 80 degrees with less sunshine. However, it is still possible that the day ends up dry and sunnier, with warmer temperatures into the 80s. Either way, it should be muggy with dewpoints in the upper half of the 60s.
Tuesday
What: Sun and clouds. A few showers or storms.
Like Monday, Tuesday’s rain chances are unclear this far out. Extra clouds and showers will hold temperatures near or just above 80 degrees, but a sunny dry day could push temperatures higher. It will continue to be muggy.
Wednesday
What: Rain showers.
Wednesday will be more of the same, though rain chances currently look higher than Monday or Tuesday. Muggy conditions are expected to continue, though temperatures may take a small step back.
Late Next Week
Rain, and possibly some thundery downpours, are likely at times late next week and possibly into next weekend. Like the early part of the week, there is still plenty of uncertainty which days will see rain and which may see less or none. All in all, next week as a whole looks unsettled, warm, and muggy. That should begin to erode away as we go into the next weekend and the following week.
