High pressure will take control of our weather this week, keeping rainy weather just to our south over the Mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures will feel cool, but will be close to the climatological averages as the autumnal equinox officially ushers us into early Autumn. Most days will have highs in the low and mid 60s with overnight lows in the 40s.

Monday
What: Periods of sun, periods of clouds
Early morning satellite imagery shows mixed skies across the Finger Lakes, with patches of thick low clouds beneath a deck of thin clouds high in the atmosphere. Further west, over Canada and Michigan, the clouds look a bit thicker. Therefore, the best chance for sunshine will be in patches across the area this morning. During the afternoon, thicker clouds may be more widespread, but even then, a little sunshine may filter through. Dry conditions are expected through the daytime hours, but a stray shower or two will be possible this evening.
Winds will be from the northeast at 5-10 mph. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low 60s with upper 50s in the higher elevations. A few urban areas may reach the mid 60s. Tonight’s temperatures will drop to the mid and upper 40s.
Tuesday
What: Sun and mainly thin clouds
Tuesday overall looks sunnier than Monday. Most of the clouds that will be passing through will be of the high, thin variety. At times, even these may clear out, leaving blue sky. No rain will fall. Winds will remain from the northeast with speeds around or slightly over 5 mph.
Most areas will see highs into the mid 60s. Overnight lows will mainly be in the upper half of the 40s.
Wednesday
What: Sun and clouds
Very little will change with the weather on Wednesday. Sunshine will mix with mainly thin clouds. Winds will shift a little closer to becoming due east, but speeds will remain 5-10 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 60s. Overnight lows may be a touch cooler, averaging out in the mid 40s with warm and cooler pockets.
Thursday
What: Sun and clouds
Thursday will be another day of more of the same. By nature of Thursday being four days out, the exact nature of the cloud cover is a bit less certain, but there should be at least some sun and no rain. Winds will be back to the northeast, still at 5-10 mph. Daytime highs will also be in the same range, with most areas in the mid 60s. Nighttime lows will range across the 40s.
Friday
What:Â Increased clouds and perhaps a late shower
Low pressure may develop along the eastern seaboard on Friday, possibly spreading some cloudiness into the area. A few showers may even reach the eastern Finger Lakes late in the day and through the night. At this point, though, uncertainty is high and there is probably a greater chance for a completely dry day. If the low develops, winds will turn to the north and increase to around 10 mph. But with the stuck weather pattern all week, there would not be much in the way of cold air to import, so temperatures would probably stay in the mid 60s.
Saturday
What: Perhaps an early shower
Friday’s forecast bleeds into Saturday, with a chance for some showers in the morning from the same weather system. All the same low-confidence caveats remain. The afternoon is more likely to be completely dry and possibly have some sun. No significant change in temperature is expected.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds
Whatever weather system may or may not impact the area late Friday and early Saturday should be well out of the picture by Sunday. Right now, it looks like a sunny day with highs staying in the mid 60s.
Next Week
The chances for rain next week looks scarce, but it is too early to write them off completely. Temperatures may start to creep up a little bit, but it may still be hard to get all the way back to 70 degrees.
