With their midday update, the Storm Prediction Center has increased the severe thunderstorm risk over our area from a Level 1- Marginal risk to a Level 2 – SLIGHT risk.
Thunderstorms over western New York and southern Ontario are in the process of developing and have already shown some organization into line segments.
Conditions are locally favorable for scattered severe thunderstorms with a damaging wind risk. These should generally be low-end severe storms with wind gusts in the 60 mph range. A little small hail may also be possible.
The chances for high end, destructive microbursts as seen in previous weeks, should remain minimal. Tornadoes are not expected, though can never be completely ruled out when dealing with severe thunderstorms.
Storms will be possible any time this afternoon, but will be most likely during the latter half of the afternoon.
I’ll be monitoring the situation and will post additional updates like this one as necessary.
