Easter Thunderstorms in the Finger Lakes
A happy Easter to you all! Here is a quick update on the chances for thunderstorms this afternoon.
It appears that a line of thunderstorms will develop over western New York and the western Finger Lakes between 1-2 pm. This line will move quickly east, and should exit the area between 4-5 pm.
The line will be oriented from southwest to northeast, so northern areas of the Finger Lakes will see the storms sooner than similar areas further south.
Most areas will probably at least see some rain and hear some thunder, but there is some potential for a bit more than that.
Gusty winds will be possible with this line of thunderstorms, and some gusts over 55 mph will be possible. As such, a severe thunderstorm warning or two may need to be issued.
Small hail may also be possible. The tornado threat is very, very minimal, but does exist.
Please keep an eye to the sky this afternoon. This is our first real widespread thunderstorm risk, and with the Easter Holiday and warm temperatures, many of us will be outside enjoying the weather.
When the skies start to darken and the rumbles of thunder are heard, it will be time to head indoors for a time.
Have a wonderful Easter and be mindful of the weather!
