Warm Front Moves Through Tuesday
Tuesday is off to a sunny start this morning. Temperatures last night dropped back into the low and mid 40s under clear skies, but the temperature should rebound quickly this morning with the sun.
Looking west, an area of clouds and some showers are tracking east across Michigan and southern Ontario. These are along a warm front that is lifting northeast through the region.
Clouds will likely thicken up for a time during the midday and early afternoon hours, but it will probably not become totally overcast. A spotty shower cannot be ruled out, especially for areas further west, but most of the rain should dissipate before it arrives.
High temperatures this afternoon will be near normal and in the range that most people find comfortable. Look for highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
Winds that will be light and variable this morning will consolidate towards the south and southwest behind the warm front. Even with mostly clear skies overnight, that will keep temperatures much milder, with lows in the mid 50s.
A Taste of Summer
Very warm air will flood into the Finger Lakes behind the warm front as the south wind increases on Wednesday. Gusts to 30 mph will be possible throughout Wednesday and Thursday.
As a result of those gusty winds and mostly sunny skies, the temperature will soar both Wednesday and Thursday.
Highs will push into the mid 80s over the northern and central Finger Lakes on Wednesday, with low 80s in the outlying higher elevations. A few spots in Monroe and Wayne county could push into the upper 80s.
Thursday will be nearly as warm but may fall just a degree or two behind Wednesday thanks to some extra clouds and a few spotty showers or storms in the afternoon.
A cold front will move through late Thursday night or early Friday with a few more showers and a shot of cooler air. Before the front clears the area, it may be a very warm, muggy night with temperatures not dropping much below 70.
After the front moves through, temperatures will fall back to the upper 50s and low 60s for most of the day on Friday.
How About Some Middle Ground?
Too cold? Too hot? If you are looking for a nice middle ground, say temperatures consistently between the mid 60s and low 70s, then next week may be what you are waiting for.
Early indications are for temperatures to stabilize a bit with highs most days in the 60s.
While this is technically a few degrees below normal for the later half of May, it still should be a comfortable in-between for our region.
There will be a chance for a couple of storm system to bring rain to the area, but it is too early to determine how much or even when exactly.
