After a cold start to the week, most days will end up more seasonable with highs in the 50s and low 60s. There will be several chances for precipitation, but amounts will be low with just some occasional showery weather expected.
Monday:
What: Occasional snow showers
Steady northwest winds will keep temperatures in the 30s today. Occasional brief snow showers are likely through the morning and into the afternoon. Like yesterday, some of these may contain graupel, also known somewhat incorrectly as “soft hail”. Between snow showers, some sun will shine. Late in the day, snow showers will dissipate and sunshine will increase further.
Monday Night:
What: Clear and cold
Skies will be mostly clear tonight with winds becoming mostly calm during the evening. A light south wind may develop overnight. Temperatures will be well down into the 20s for most areas and a few isolated cold pockets may end up dipping below 20 degrees. Early blossoming trees and plants will be at a high risk for damage tonight. The growing season has not officially begun, however, so no freeze warnings will be issued by the National Weather Service.
Tuesday:
What: A few late rain showers
Southerly winds and some early sunshine will help temperatures bounce back from the cold start to the morning. By the afternoon, most places will be near or slightly above 50 degrees. Clouds will gradually increase and a few late afternoon and early evening rain showers are possible, mainly after 5 PM. Any rain that falls should be sporadic and light. Clouds and showers will hold nighttime temperatures in the 40s. Wind speeds on Tuesday will be near or under 10 mph.
Wednesday:
What: Occasional showers
The chances for rain showers will continue into Wednesday. Like late Tuesday, the rain will be intermittent and light. Individual rain showers will most likely be short-lived. Light south winds in the morning will turn to light northerly winds in the afternoon. Temperatures should peak in the mid and upper 50s but nighttime temperatures will drop to the upper 30s as skies clear.
Thursday & Friday:
What: Sunny with a few clouds
For outdoor activities, Thursday and Friday look like the pick days of the week. Both should have ample sunshine and a lack of precipitation. Highs will push toward or above 60 degrees. Thursday’s winds may be a touch blustery, but Friday’s look light. Nighttime temperatures will stay in the 40s.
Weekend:
What: Scattered showers
The chances for rain will increase again by the weekend. Of the two days, right now Saturday looks a bit wetter than Sunday. However, like the rain expected earlier in the week, Saturday’s showers currently also look light and intermittent. Sunday’s rain looks mainly limited to some early lingering showers before a dry afternoon. Temperatures will retreat just a little with the clouds and showers with highs in the upper 50s.
Late April and Early May:
We are still in the time of year when large fluctuations in temperatures and weather conditions are more of the norm than anything stable and consistent. That can make even identifying overall patterns in the long term almost futile. Still, it looks as though we are more likely to see slightly cool temperatures rather than another stretch of very warm temperatures over the next couple of weeks. That doesn’t mean there will be not days that push into the 70s… but it also means that it isn’t the most likely outcome. We are also getting to the time of year when precipitation trends can be almost meaningless, as a single hour long thunderstorm event can reverse a week’s worth of dry weather. With cooler temperatures, though, thunderstorms will probably be less likely.
