Saturday’s Rain Chances
Some parts of the Finger Lakes will see rain on Saturday during the afternoon, but many areas will likely remain mostly or completely dry.
An area of low pressure is located north of Lake Ontario this morning and will track east towards Northern New York later today.
A weak, disorganized front extends south from the low across western New York and Pennsylvania. However, most of the moisture and upper-level support associated with this storm system is well to the east over New England.
This results in a fairly unimpressive set up for rain today in the Finger Lakes. Still, a few showers and thunderstorms should be able to pop up this afternoon, especially since skies are sunny this morning.
Precipitation should start to develop during the early afternoon. I expect the rain and thunder to remain quite scattered and disorganized. One or two storms may have some briefly gusty winds, but I am not anticipating any significant severe weather or flash flooding.
Outside of those few showers and storms, skies will be a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures will push into the upper 70s.
The chances for thunder will diminish greatly this evening, but a few showers may linger on into the overnight.
Very Nice Sunday
Clouds and perhaps a shower will still be in place early Sunday morning.
Dry air will start to work in from the west as the storm system continues to pull away and high pressure builds in to replace it.
By the midday hours, the sun should start to appear and will increase throughout the afternoon.
Mostly sunny skies are expected for the late afternoon and early evening hours, with a clear overnight period.
Areas of fog will likely develop in the favored locations as temperatures slip back into the 50s Sunday night.
Next Week Preview
High pressure will remain in place on Monday, though high, thin clouds will stream in ahead of a small weather system. This will bring a shower or two Monday night and possibly into Tuesday.
Wednesday looks dry with some sun and warm temperatures as highs push into the 80s.
Thursday currently looks like the best chance for rain and thunderstorms as another system pushes through. It is too early to tell much about what this system will bring. Showers may linger into Friday as the system pulls away.
Temperatures next week will continue to be about where they have been for much of the summer with fluctuations between the mid 70s and low 80s.
