Cool Down Monday, Warm Up Tuesday

Temperatures during the first part of the week will bounce up and down across the Finger Lakes.

Monday will be characterized by chilly temperatures before warmer air moves in for Tuesday.

Temperatures are starting the week in the mid 30s across the Finger Lakes, but will actually slide backward a few degrees over the course of the day.

This is thanks to a small cold front that will sag south across the region this morning.

A brief snow shower may accompany the front, but any precipitation will be light and very scattered.

Skies will remain cloudy until the afternoon, when the sun will start to slowly work out. Clear skies will probably not completely take over until after sunset.

A south wind will kick up overnight, keeping temperatures in the upper 20s despite the clear skies.

A mild day is expected Tuesday, with temperatures ranging from the low 50s across the southeastern Finger Lakes (Elmira, Ithaca, Cortland) to near 60 degrees in and around Rochester.

Sunny skies should dominate on Tuesday, but it will be blustery with wind gusts of 25-35 mph.

A Little Late Week Precipitation

A series of weather systems will impact the Finger Lakes later in the week, but at this time, precipitation looks fairly limited.

The first of these will swing through the area early Wednesday. A few scattered rain showers may be possible, but it may turn out that most of these will dissipate before reaching our area.

Temperatures Wednesday will start in the mid and upper 40s and will hold steady or fall slightly during the day.

A second system will move in late Thursday with a better chance for some rain showers. Most of these will fall after sunset following highs in the mid 40s.

Some lingering lake enhanced precipitation will be possible early Friday as a mix of rain and snow or just plain snow. These should end by the afternoon as skies clear. Highs Friday will be in the upper 30s.

Saturday currently looks dry but cloudy while Sunday may have a few rain or snow showers. Temperatures at this early stage look to be in the low 40s.
