Quieter weather builds into the Finger Lakes

finger lakes weather forecast wednesday january 17 2018
Some breaks of sunshine and slowly warming temperatures will build into the Finger Lakes for the second half of the week.

Slowly Improving Weather

The weather over the Finger Lakes will gradually trend nicer over the next few days with some breaks of sun and rising temperatures.

First, a few lingering morning snow showers still have to move out of the region. These will do so as low pressure over eastern New York this morning lifts off to the northeast.

Much of the snow should be over by mid-morning and some sun may work out by the afternoon.

Cool air behind this low pressure will keep temperatures down today, with most areas topping out near or just above 20 degrees.

Single digits and low teens are likely overnight as skies remain partly cloudy.

Thursday will start sunny, but clouds may increase late. A couple of stray flurries are possible overnight as a small impulse in the atmosphere swings through. No accumulation is expected.

A few flurries may linger early Friday but should dissipate during the morning, allowing sunshine to work back out.

Temperatures will rise to the mid 20s on Thursday before jumping to the mid 30s on Friday.

Comfortable Weekend Weather

The weekend is shaping up to be comfortable as the quiet weather conditions continue.

A good deal of sunshine is expected on Saturday with just some high, thin clouds expected.

Southwest winds may be a bit blustery with gusts of 25-35 mph. However, warmer air will move in on those winds.

Look for afternoon highs to reach just above 40 degrees with overnight temperatures dropping only into the upper 20s.

Clouds will increase for Sunday, but no precipitation is expected at this time.

Temperatures will be similar to Saturday, with highs topping out around 40 degrees.

A few rain showers will be possible on Monday as a weak warm front associated with a developing storm system pushes through.

This system will bring some rain and wind on Tuesday next week, followed by cooler temperatures.
