Losing the Coolness
After a couple of cooler days in the Finger Lakes, temperatures will return to the 80s for Friday with plenty more warm weather on the way.
High pressure is in firm control of our weather now and will pass south of the region today. As the high passes, winds will take on a more southerly direction and will decrease.
Clouds will also be hard to come by on Friday with just a few small fair weather clouds and some high, thin cirrus. Neither of these should make an impact on the amount of sunshine today.
It is no surprise that today will end up warmer than the last few days with these changes taking place. Look for afternoon highs today to reach the low 80s and upper 70s.
Friday night will not be quite as cool either. Overnight lows should mostly be at or above 60 degrees, except across the Southern Tier, where upper 50s are more likely.
Temperatures this weekend will remain warm, but mostly comfortable. Highs on Saturday will be around 80 degrees while Sunday should have low 80s for most.
Hot and humid weather will then build in for Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday especially looks hot with many areas at or above 90 degrees and heat index values above 95 degrees.
What About Rain?
The chances for rain through the weekend and into early next week are trending lower.
A stray shower may fall on Saturday, but I think the atmosphere will be too dry to even allow more than a couple drips to reach the surface. Almost all of the Finger Lakes should stay dry on Saturday.
Sunday, especially during the morning, the chances for rain will increase a little. Some areas will still remain dry and those that do see rain will most likely only see a very little.
By Monday and Tuesday, the focal point for rain will become a warm front well north of the region. There is a small chance for a pop-up shower or storm Monday, but like Saturday, almost all areas should remain dry.
No rain is currently expected on Tuesday.
A cold front will deliver some showers and storms on Wednesday, which will by far have the best chance for rain in the coming week. Even then, a washout of a day seems unlikely.
