The transition from September to October will be warm with highs in the 70s the next two days. A cold front Friday will bring rain and set temperatures back into the 60s for the weekend. Quiet weather is expected for the weekend, though, with plenty of sunshine. Another cold front will bring a couple showers on Monday, with chilly air settling in for the first part of next week.

Wednesday
What: Clouds, some filtered sun
A deck of thin overcast is moving into the area this morning, mixing with areas of fog and low morning clouds. The fog and low clouds will burn off, allowing some limited sunshine to filter through. Clouds should thicken further in the afternoon, and a stray spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out. Temperatures will be warm with highs in the low and mid 70s with a light south wind. Nighttime temperatures will be around 60 degrees.
Thursday
What: Scattered showers, mostly early.
A few showers will pass through the area on Thursday, mostly during the morning hours. A few places may get through without any rain, but most areas will probably see some light rain at some point. The afternoon could still have a stray shower, but the chances will be much lower. Some sun will likely come out during the afternoon as well. South and southwest winds will be around 10 mph, keeping afternoon highs well into the 70s. Overnight temperatures will be in the mid 60s with increasing clouds as a cold front approaches.
Friday
What:Â Periods of rain
A cold front is expected to slowly pass through the region on Friday with an area of widespread rain. Several hours of steady rain look possible, especially during the morning hours, though some models show the rain drying up and dissipating as it crosses the region. Friday’s winds start from the southwest, but will turn to the northwest with speeds up to 10 mph. This wind shift will mark the cold front and should take place near or before noon. Temperatures will change little through the day as a result, mainly sticking to the mid 60s through the morning and afternoon. Skies will start to clear overnight, allowing lows to drop to the mid 40s.
Saturday
What: Sunny
At this time, Saturday looks bright and sunny behind Friday’s cold front. A few clouds will likely bubble up for the late morning and afternoon, but no rain is expected. Light north winds will blow. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 60s with nighttime temperatures in the low 40s.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds
Sunday also looks quiet with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be from the south at 10 mph with highs in the mid 60s. Overnight temperatures will be in the mid 40s.
Monday
What: A few showers
Another cold front is expected on Monday, bringing a quick-moving band of scattered showers through the area. Much of the day will be dry with sunshine, and some areas may not see any rain at all. Temperatures will end up somewhere around the upper 50s or low 60s, depending on the timing of the front.
Tuesday
What: Morning frost
Cold air will settle in behind Monday’s front, interacting with clear skies Monday night to bring our first chance for widespread frost with lows in the 30s. Not something to count on yet, but if you still have a garden, keep a close eye on the forecast. The rest of Tuesday looks sunny but cool with highs struggling even to reach the mid 50s. Tuesday night will bring another, perhaps higher chance for frost with lows again well down into the 30s.
Later Next Week
Much of next week looks to be fairly quiet. Temperatures should come back into the lower 60s for much of the rest of the week. Rain chances may increase toward next weekend, but the models are not in very good agreement yet on that possibility.
