Lake Effect Snow Tapers Off
Northwest winds continue to transport cold air into the Finger Lakes between low pressure over Eastern Canada and high pressure over the Great Lakes.
Temperatures are starting today in the low 20s. Very little movement is expected today with highs just in the mid 20s.
The wind will continue to be blustery this morning before gradually tapering off for this afternoon. Wind chills will spend most of the day in the teens.
Lake effect snow showers will likewise decrease through the morning as the high pressure system builds in. Little to no additional accumulation is expected.
By the mid and late afternoon, skies should become rather sunny.
Temperatures will drop some this evening, but a developing south wind will keep it warmer than it otherwise would be.
Temperatures Rocket Up
Most areas will start Wednesday in the low 20s despite mostly clear skies overnight.
The sunshine and the south wind will result in a big jump in temperatures. Afternoon highs Wednesday will push into the low and mid 40s. Much of the snow that has fallen will already be gone by Wednesday evening.
Temperatures will drop to around 30 degrees Wednesday night under mostly moonlit skies.
A steady south wind will continue through Thursday as clouds increase from the south.
High temperatures will be in the upper 40s with a few areas reaching 50 degrees. No precipitation is expected, and top wind gusts will be around 20 mph, making for a great day.
A large storm system will then move north along the Appalachian Mountains Thursday night into Friday.
An area of rain and wind will move through the Finger Lakes Thursday night before dry air wraps around the low pressure center and into the area by Friday morning.
Some sunshine may work out Friday morning and afternoon as temperatures soar into the mid and upper 50s.
The low will pass north through Western New York Friday evening, possibly with a rumble of thunder as cold air rushes in behind the low.
By Saturday morning, flurries will fly across the Finger Lakes with minor chances for snow through Christmas Day.
