I live on the east side of Seneca lake near Ovid, just a couple minutes walk from the lake. I noticed that most of the worst of storms misses us–it tends to go over our heads and be worse on the ridge where Ovid is. Since I have a new car and no garage, I hope that continues to be true this time. I’m especially worried about large hail. What do you think about east side of Seneca near the shore? Safer than most or not reliable this time around?

Hi David! There are definitely topographic influences that seem to make storms hit, and miss, the same areas time and again. There is also an element of luck and randomness involved, too, so it isn’t something to always count on. Nonetheless, our storm motion today will be north-northwest to south-southeast…not the typical westerly dominated flow, so all normal bets are off…
