Turning warmer and unsettled

Rain Chances Increase Mid-Week

A small disturbance in an active jet stream aloft has brought some cloudiness into the Finger Lakes.

Most of these clouds are thin and will allow a little sunshine to filter through. However, some periods of thicker clouds will be possible from time to time today.

A stray shower cannot be totally ruled out, but these will be few and far between. Most areas will stay dry today.

Temperatures will be similar to yesterday with highs in the 70-75 degree range. Winds will be lighter today and from the south and west. Top gusts should be around 20 mph.

Clouds will remain in place tonight and tomorrow. Initially, a little sun may filter through, but the clouds will thicken over the course of Wednesday morning.

By the latter half of the afternoon, scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will move in from the southwest. Many areas will see at least a little rain Wednesday afternoon and evening.

High temperatures on Wednesday will come during the midday hours, generally in the mid 70s.

Thursday will be the rainiest day of the week. It does not currently look like an all day, steady rain like we had last Friday. However, numerous showers and a few afternoon thunderstorms will be ongoing at any time of day. Expect on and off periods of rain throughout the day with only brief breaks in the rain.

High temperatures on Thursday will respond accordingly, mostly sticking to the low 70s.

Surge of Summer

Most of the day Friday will be dry, starting out with sunshine before mixing with fair-weather clouds. These clouds will continue to grow through the afternoon, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop for the latter part of the afternoon.

Temperatures on Friday will push into the upper 70s while dewpoints make it into the low 60s.

Saturday will take a jump forward in temperature with widespread 80s. Many areas will make it into the mid 80s while higher elevations are in the low 80s. A few scattered showers may be possible.

Heat will continue to build, with Sunday pushing into the upper 80s for many areas. A few places may hit 90. Sunday looks mostly sunny with only a few stray clouds.

Next week is looking persistently hot. By Monday, highs will be near 90 degrees over a large part of the Finger Lakes.

Temperatures will remain very warm, with highs near 90 most days next week. Even morning lows will be in the mid and upper 60s at least.

It will also be very humid, with dewpoints in the 60s and possibly even 70s. However, there appears to be nothing to trigger thunderstorms. Still, lake breezes and topographical features may be enough to at least trigger a few isolated showers and storms, even if the models are not yet showing that.

A better chance for rain will come late in the week or next weekend as a cold front breaks the heat and humidity.
