Tuesday Weather

A weak cold front is moving through the Finger Lakes this morning.

Snow showers behind the front are moving across Western New York and will press eastward into our region through the morning.

None of the snow is very heavy and accumulations will be minimal. Most areas will not see more than a light coating of snow and travel conditions should be impacted in a meaningful way.

Most of the snow will fall during the second half of the morning through the early afternoon. Later in the day, with the snow to our east, some clearing will take place as the sun sets.

Northwest winds will develop during the late morning and midday hours and will increase to around 10 mph for the afternoon. Wind gusts should stay under 25 mph.

Temperatures today will range from the low 30s along the Thruway to near 30 for most other lower elevations and the upper 20s in the hills. A few places in Allegany and Wyoming county may stick to the mid 20s.

Skies will continue to clear tonight, sending temperatures quickly into the 10s. Most of the cooling will take place by midnight, with steadier temperatures thereafter thanks to winds already turning back around to the south.

The south winds will build during the overnight to around 10 mph. Some predawn warming is possible, especially along and west of I-390. There, Wednesday may start out in the 20s, but the rest of the region should be in the mid and upper 10s with a few colder pockets.

Mild Through Saturday

Several mild days are expected for the rest of the week.

On the back of southerly winds and some morning sunshine, highs Wednesday should push into the mid 40s with most places just a degree or two shy of 45 degrees.

Clouds will increase throughout the day and some late rain showers will be possible. Any precipitation that falls should be brief, though a few flurries will also be possible overnight.

Thursday will start out with temperatures in the low 30s, but highs will only add a few degrees with mid and upper 30s in the afternoon. Scattered snow showers will again be possible but with no accumulation or travel concerns.

Friday is looking quiet with temperatures nosing back into the low 40s. Skies will be a mixture of sunshine and clouds, but the clouds will ultimately win out.

Saturday will have a cold front move through the area. The timing of the front will determine how much opportunity there is for warm temperatures early in the day. Currently, a morning high around 40 looks possible.

By the afternoon, rain showers will turn to snow as a shot of cold air moves in. Highs Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will be in the low and mid 10s with morning lows near or below 0.

As quickly as the cold settles in, it will retreat, with highs making a run at the 40s almost immediately next Wednesday. Near or slightly above average temperatures look to remain in place beyond the middle of next week.
