Sunny and Dry
A sprawling area of high pressure centered over the Great Lakes region this morning will drift eastward over the next few days.
This high pressure system will ensure the weather stays quiet and a bit cool today and tomorrow before temperatures return to near-average levels for the end of the week.
Today will be the coolest day of the week with many areas only reaching the low to perhaps mid 70s this afternoon.
This will be due to north-northwest winds caused by the position of the high to our west. Wind speeds will be greater than 5 mph, but under 10 mph. A few gusts may eclipse 20 mph.
Humidity will continue to be very low with dewpoints mainly in the 40s and lower 50s today.
Fair weather clouds will mix with sunshine. Dry weather is expected for most of the area, with just a small chance for a brief spit of rain over the higher terrain of the western Southern Tier this afternoon.
Skies will be mostly clear tonight as the high pressure moves overhead. Winds will become calm. Nighttime temperatures will generally drop to the upper 40s across the southern portions of the region, and the low and mid 50s across the north. Pockets of warmer and cooler temperatures will exist region-wide.
Wednesday will again be sunny with fair weather clouds mixing in. Dry conditions are likely, though there will still be the smallest of small chances for a stray spit of rain during the afternoon.
Winds will be calm throughout the day. The lack of a north wind will allow temperatures to bump up a couple of degrees, with widespread mid 70s and a few upper 70s for highs.
The high will pass to the east Wednesday evening, allowing a south wind to take hold through the night. Wind speeds over 5 mph will keep nighttime temperatures around 60 degrees.
Thursday should also remain dry with fair weather clouds. Temperatures will rise to the low and mid 80s. Dewpoints will rise as well but will remain comfortable in the 50s.
A Couple Weather Systems
The next weather maker will move in on Friday as a cold front drops south from Canada.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible on and off throughout the day.
While it is still too far out to see the details of how any storms evolve on Friday, the early indications are that the threat for severe weather will be marginal at most, and the chances for torrential downpours and flash flooding very low.
Temperatures on Friday will ultimately depend on the timing of the front and its rain but should be near average in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
There will be a small chance for an early lingering shower on Saturday, but the majority of the area should stay dry all day.
Skies will have the typical mix of sun and fair weather clouds. Temperatures will take a small hit behind the front, with morning lows in the mid 50s and afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
Sunday morning will also start in the mid 50s, but some southerly winds will push highs back to around 80 degrees.
Monday will have another front pass through with scattered showers and storms. That may end up being the primary chance for rain next week, though uncertainty remains elevated.
Temperatures next week should be somewhere near average, with highs generally somewhere between 75-85 degrees.
