Weekend Weather Forecast

A cold front slide through the Finger Lakes during the overnight hours and is now to our southeast.

In the wake of this front, winds are out of the north and clouds remain plentiful. The radar is mostly clear early this morning, but scattered spits of precipitation will develop later on this morning.

This precipitation will be part lake enhancement, part from a small piece of atmospheric energy passing through. None of the precipitation will be robust and individual bouts will tend to be brief.

Both rain and snow will be possible today, with the best chance for rain coming along the lake shores and near and north of I-90. Most other areas should see mostly flurries today with no snow accumulation.

Temperatures will only rise a couple of degrees today, if even that, for a high in the mid 30s. Some higher elevations will stick to the low 30s. Wind speeds will increase to around 10 mph with gusts of 20-25 mph.

A northerly flow will persist through the night and into Saturday morning, keeping clouds in the area. Gradually, the north wind will break down on Saturday, which should allow sunshine to take over during the afternoon. At least a few scattered lake effect clouds will likely persist through sunset as well, though.

Saturday will start out with temperatures in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid 30s.

Skies will continue to clear Saturday night and much of Sunday should be sunny. There may be a couple of periods of clouds that drift through as well.

Temperatures will start out in the low and mid 20s, but afternoon highs will rise to the mid and upper 30s.

Quiet Weather Next Week

High pressure will dominate the eastern United States next week, bringing a prolonged period of quiet weather to our area and surrounding regions.

Monday and Tuesday both look as though they will be full of sunshine. A few stray clouds here or there may be possible, but for the most part, blue skies will abound.

Temperatures Monday morning will start in the low and mid 20s, but probably a degree or two warmer overall than Sunday morning. The afternoon will be flipped, with temperatures a degree or two shy of Sunday’s highs. Most areas will be in the mid 30s.

Tuesday will likewise start with low and mid 20s ahead of afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Milder air will start to build in during the middle of the week, with highs into the mid 40s on Wednesday and near 50 degrees by Thursday.

Clouds will increase for both days, but at least some sunshine will still try to poke through. Rain is not expected on either day, though Thursday is less certain of this than Wednesday.

A few showers may finally return to the area on Friday with a better chance for precipitation next weekend. Friday will probably end up as the warmest day of the week before temperatures reverse course.

As we head toward the middle of the month, cooler, more active weather looks probable.
