Mid-Week Weather Forecast

High pressure is firmly in control of the weather over the Finger Lakes.

Today will be filled with blue skies and sunshine. Clouds will be very hard to come by. The best chance for a few stray, thin clouds will be late in the afternoon or early this evening.

Temperatures will still be held in check by a light northerly flow. Afternoon highs will mostly be in the mid and upper 30s.

Wind speeds will be around 5 mph during the day before becoming nearly calm this evening. Temperatures will drop back into the 20s with some colder pockets possible.

Wednesday will have more in the way of cloud cover, but there should still be plenty of sunshine as well. The clouds will be most numerous during the afternoon hours. No precipitation will fall.

Winds will remain nearly calm throughout Wednesday. Simply losing the northerly breeze will be enough to cause temperatures to jump, with highs in the low and mid 40s.

A south wind will pick up Wednesday night and into Thursday, causing temperatures to rise further. Low temperatures Wednesday night will be around 30 degrees, and afternoon highs on Thursday will be around 50 degrees.

Thursday will likely start with some sun, but clouds will increase and thicken during the afternoon. The day should end mostly cloudy or overcast.

South winds and clouds will hold temperatures to the upper 30s Thursday night.

Just a Few Showers

Precipitation will reenter the picture on Friday and Saturday as low pressure passes from the Upper Great Lakes into eastern Canada.

The first chance for a few showers will come Friday morning. These will be light and sporadic, and not all places will see rain. After a midday lull, a few more afternoon showers will be possible. Again, these will not be very widespread, and some areas will miss out again.

South winds will continue on Friday with breezy speeds near 10 mph. Wind gusts should generally stay under 25 mph, though. Temperatures will rise into the low 50s.

The chances for rain are a bit higher on Saturday, but it still does not look like the day will be a washout. Most areas should see a little rain at least, though.

Temperatures will remain mild, with highs around 50 degrees. However, the rain will be associated with a weak cold front that will trigger a gradual cool down.

Sunday looks mostly cloudy with west winds and highs retreating to the low 40s. Monday will be cloudy, and while highly uncertain at this time, could have some precipitation in the area. Temperatures will ultimately depend on the path of the low pressure system in question.

Temperatures will continue to fall next week with highs mostly sticking to the 25-35 degree range for the middle of February. Despite the return of colder air, the pattern continues to look relatively dry with little in the way of snow showing on the models.
