Weekend Warm Front
High pressure is practically overhead this morning, leading to another cold but sunny start to the day.
Over time today, the high will slide to our southeast, shifting winds from the southeast to the south. Wind speeds will remain minimal, though, with speeds near or under 5 mph.
Skies will be sun-filled throughout the day, though a few thin cirrus clouds may drift through during the afternoon with little to no impact on the sunshine.
Temperatures will be about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday with highs mostly near or above 60 degrees. Higher elevations and the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline will be in the 50s.
Tonight, south winds will increase to around 10 mph and cloud cover will gradually build in overnight.
Temperatures will be much warmer as a result, with overnight lows ranging from the mid 40s near Rochester and through the Genesee Valley to the upper 30s across the Southern Tier and into Cortland County. A few isolated colder pockets may slip into the mid 30s.
Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a band of rain showers arriving during the afternoon hours. On and off showers will persist until around sunset.
Even with south winds increasing to 10-15 mph with a few gusts over 30 mph, temperatures will be a touch cooler on Saturday with highs mostly near or under 60 degrees.
A new air mass will start to move in Saturday night. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will pop up during the overnight during this transition. Morning lows Sunday will be near 50 degrees.
Warm Weather
The chance for a few showers and thunderstorms will continue into Sunday. While rain may be falling somewhere at any time on Sunday, the best chance for precipitation will be during the afternoon. Even then, most areas will probably be dry at any given time, and some areas will not see any rain on Sunday.
Winds will be more westerly on Sunday, but much warmer air will flood in anyway. Look for highs to easily reach the mid 70s in most areas.
Sunday night’s temperatures will only reach the mid 50s, getting Monday off to a running start. There will be some clouds and possibly a stray shower or storm around on Monday, but most areas will stay dry.
Most areas on Monday will be close to or just above 80 degrees. The warm valleys of the Southern Tier may see mid 80s, while a lake breeze off Lake Ontario keeps the shoreline lower in the 70s or even in the 60s.
A front will cross the region on Tuesday. After starting with morning lows near 60, afternoon highs in the low and mid 70s are expected. Showers and possibly thunderstorms will be likely, though the timing of the precipitation is uncertain.
Wednesday looks mainly dry, though like Monday, a stray shower cannot be totally ruled out. Highs will remain in the 70s.
Another front will bring showers Wednesday night and possibly into Thursday. Temperatures will take a step back into the mid 60s.
Unsettled weather is possible, but uncertain, for next weekend. Temperatures will likely steady out in the 50s and 60s for highs into the following week.
