Sunshine and comfortably warm

A cold front has been moving through the Finger Lakes early this morning with clouds and just a few stray showers.

Dewpoints are dropping across the area in the wake of this front, and the regional satellite imagery shows clear skies moving through western New York.

The clouds will hold on in the Finger Lakes for a couple hours into the mid-morning, but then skies should turn sunny for the rest of the day.

A light northwest wind will set up behind the front as well, reducing temperatures and humidity to more comfortable levels.

Most areas will see highs in the upper 70s with a few low 80s, mainly in the typically warmer valleys of the Southern Tier. Dewpoints will drop through the 50s.

Tonight, there may be a few thin clouds early, but overall skies will remain mostly clear. Temperatures will drop into the low and mid 50s for overnight lows.

Friday will also be sun-filled and comfortable. There should be very few, if any, clouds in the sky.

Northwest winds will be a bit stronger, coming in around 10 mph during the afternoon. Gusts should stay between 20-25 mph.

Friday’s high temperatures will be a couple of degrees lower than today, with more areas in the mid 70s. A few low 80s will still be possible in the Southern Tier, though.

Memorial Day Weekend Weather

A pair of weather systems will come at our region for the holiday weekend, but there will still be a good deal of dry time to enjoy the outdoors as well.

Much of Saturday is looking dry, with showers and storms holding off until late in the afternoon or during the nighttime hours. The further west, the better the chance for daytime rain showers. The exact timing and nature of these showers and storms will continue to be worked out over the next two days.

Winds will turn southerly ahead of this system, but will be light with speeds around 5 mph.

Temperatures will get a small boost as a result, with highs in the low 80s.

Showers and storms will dissipate Saturday evening as they move into the area, and some areas may see very little to no rainfall. By Sunday morning, skies will be clearing with a morning low in the upper 50s.

Sunday will have a mix of sun and clouds with light and variable winds. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low 80s with dewpoints comfortably in the 50s.

The best chance for rain will come on Memorial Day itself on Monday. Showers and thunderstorms look possible throughout the day, but of course, the details are sketchy this far out, and the afternoon will probably be more favored than the morning.

At this time, the set up for severe weather looks marginal at best, but since there is some wind energy in the atmosphere with the passing weather system, it bears watching just in case.

The low pressure responsible for Monday’s storminess will take its time to depart. Tuesday and Wednesday both look showery and cool with highs sticking to the 60s.

Cool air will linger into Thursday, even as the chances for rain dwindle. Some higher elevations may not escape the 50s.

Temperatures will rebound late next week with a greater chance for dry weather.

Hi Drew, I’m getting married on 6/1 in the Watkins Glen area and I’m hoping the weather stays dry!! Any chance of seeing sunny skies at the end of the following week? Thanks!

      Hi Melanie,

While it is too early to tell much, the second half of next week looks to have more chances for sun than the first half… so yes, there is a chance!
