High Pressure
An area of high pressure over the Great Lakes will track eastward over the next two days.
For today, the center of the high pressure will remain to our west, resulting in a northerly flow across the region.
Through the morning hours, this flow will provide enough moisture for ample cloud cover, especially early on. However, as the high approaches, conditions will become less favorable for clouds.
This will result in a gradual transition to sunshine today. Some areas will take longer than others, with clouds generally lingering the longest the further southeast you area.
Northwestern areas, in fact, are already seeing some sun early this morning, though clouds may increase again for a time this morning.
By the late afternoon, mostly sunny skies should dominate the region, leading into a clear and cool overnight.
The north wind will have speeds near or just over 10 mph this morning, then slightly below 10 mph for the afternoon. Winds will go mainly calm tonight.
Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low 70s today. Some of the typically warmer urban and valley locations will see mid 70s, while a few hilltops may fail to reach 70 degrees at all.
Dewpoints will be low today in the 40s and 50s. The dry air, combined with clear skies and calm winds tonight, will send overnight temperatures into the low and mid 50s with a few pockets of upper 40s.
Southerly flow will increase Tuesday as the high pressure center passes to our east. This will allow some milder air in with highs generally around 80 degrees.
Skies will be a mix of sun and thin clouds, and no rain is expected. The wind will remain light with speeds around or under 5 mph until late in the day.
Tuesday night will not be nearly as cool as southerly winds increase. Overnight lows will mainly be in the low and mid 60s with just a few pockets in the upper 50s.
A Few Rain Chances
Southerly flow will persist into Wednesday, increasing temperatures and dewpoints.
With a mix of sun and clouds, afternoon highs should reach the mid 80s throughout the region. Warmer pockets may see upper 80s, and Rochester and Dansville will have shot at hitting 90 degrees.
Dewpoints will rise through the 50s, reaching the 60s from west to east during the latter half of the afternoon.
Wednesday evening, there may be some scattered showers and thunderstorms which linger into the overnight. Overnight lows will only be in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Scattered showers will be possible on Thursday. The morning will probably have more in the way of showers than the afternoon.
Temperatures will not really take a hit with highs in the low and mid 80s.
Another system will be possible on Friday with additional showers and storms. It will remain warm and muggy as well.
By the weekend, there will be a chance for some dry weather, though confidence is low at this time.
With warm, humid air in place and a weather system tracking through eastern Canada, there could be a chance for some pop up showers or storms, even if the models are currently not showing much.
There will be a better chance for rain towards next Tuesday, but temperatures will continue to persist mainly in the 80s during the day, and well into the 60s if not 70 degrees at night.
