Happy 4th of July
Today will not be a full blog post due to the holiday, but since so much of the festivities associated with the 4th involve outdoor activities, I’m still here to give you a quick update on our rain chances for the next few days.
There are a few showers drifting through the southeastern Finger Lakes early this Independence Day morning. These should exit the area well before mid-morning.
While a stray shower cannot be totally ruled out the rest of the day, it is much more likely that the entire area will stay dry.
The weather this evening should be fine for fireworks with partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures in the 70s, and nearly calm winds.
Friday will have a few chances for rain. Let’s take a stab at breaking this down more, with the caveat that these fine-tuned details are inherently uncertain when dealing with scattered, pop-up showers.
The first chance will come during the early morning, if not predawn hours. This batch of showers is most likely across the Southern Tier into Central New York.
Next, some scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will pop up during the second half of the afternoon, potentially persisting into the early evening. These will be most likely over the eastern and northern areas, though anywhere certainly has a chance.
These showers look as though they may be scattered enough, small enough, and brief enough to hopefully not cause too many issues for any of the Friday fireworks displays.
There will be a better chance for showers and thunderstorms region wide during the overnight hours Friday night.
On Saturday, there may be a few lingering showers, particularly across the northern parts of the region, closer to Lake Ontario.
Sunday is looking dry outside of perhaps a stray spit of rain early in the day.
It will remain warm and muggy through the weekend with highs in the mid 80s, except for Sunday, when low 80s are more likely.
Have a safe and happy holiday today. I’ll be back with my normal full forecast tomorrow morning.
