Early Week Weather

A small, decaying area of low pressure is moving northwest from the Atlantic Ocean into New England this morning, where it will dissipate.

No precipitation from this system will make it into our area, but an area of thick, high atmosphere clouds are being thrown westward into our region.

These clouds will filter or block the sunshine to varying degrees today, making for mixed skies throughout the region.

The clouds will help keep temperatures in check and it will not be as warm today as it would be without the clouds.

Still, it will be plenty warm today, with highs mainly in the mid 80s, but locally higher. The Syracuse and Rochester metro areas, as well as some of the deep valleys between Dansville and Elmira, will make a run at 90 degrees.

Dewpoints will be in the upper 50s and low 60s, so it will not feel too muggy out… yet.

Like the past several days, winds will be light and variable today, but will consolidate to a steady southerly breeze overnight.

Skies may clear for a time this evening before new clouds work in. Overnight lows will mainly be in the mid 60s.

A different small low pressure system will pass to our west tomorrow. The south winds ahead of this system will blow at 5-10 mph, increasing our humidity with dewpoints of 65-70 degrees.

Clouds will be common tomorrow, holding the actual temperature to the mid and upper 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop and should become rather widespread late Tuesday afternoon, continuing into Tuesday evening.

Heavy rain will be the primary risk associated with these showers and storms, and some localized drainage issues may be possible. Most areas will not see excessive rainfall, though.

This system will still be hanging around on Wednesday, possibly triggering some additional showers. The chances for thunderstorms and heavy rain will be lower than on Tuesday.

The humidity will be bearing down full force on Wednesday with dewpoints around 70 degrees.

Morning lows will mainly be in the upper 60s, and afternoon highs will mainly be in the low and mid 80s with quite a bit of cloud cover.

Late Week Weather

Thursday, with today, will be the best chance for a completely dry day. Sun and clouds should mix, but no rain is expected at this time.

With fewer clouds, temperatures will rise. Many areas will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, while the typically hotter areas push into the low 90s.

Dewpoints will retreat slightly, mainly residing in the mid 60s, which will still be muggy feeling.

Scattered showers and storms will be possible again on Friday, though there is uncertainty about how widespread they become across our region.

Friday’s dewpoints should be back up near 70 degrees. Temperatures will likely depend on storm coverage, but mid or upper 80s are a good bet.

Saturday will be similar, with an uncertain chance of showers and storms. Dewpoints will be high and temperatures warm, like Friday.

Sunday appears to have a higher chance for showers and storms, but of course, is uncertain this far in advance.

Next week looks warm and muggy as well, but perhaps a touch less so than this week. Rain looks most likely at the beginning and end of the week with dry weather most likely in the middle of the week.
