Early Week Weather
The Finger Lakes region is caught between low pressure over eastern Canada and high pressure over the Midwest.
A disturbance rotating around the low will drop south toward the region, bringing a continued chance for scattered showers today.
A different piece of atmospheric energy passed through early this morning with some clouds and a few showers. However, the rest of the morning should be quiet, with sunshine mixing with some clouds.
Winds will build from the northwest this morning with speeds increasing to around 10 mph. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low 70s.
Scattered showers will pop back up during the afternoon hours and will be most common during the second half of the afternoon.
The rain should be less widespread than yesterday. Individual rain cells will be brief, though there could be a couple minutes of harder rain. Some areas may make it through today without any rain.
Like last night, a few showers will linger into the evening hours, while at the same time, an overall trend toward clearer skies will begin.
Overnight lows will range through the 50s and skies should be mostly clear to start Tuesday.
While a stray spit of afternoon rain cannot be totally ruled out on Tuesday, as a whole, it will be a sunnier, drier day than today.
Winds will be northerly with speeds above 5 mph but below 10 mph. The extra sunshine will nudge temperatures into the mid 70s for most, with cooler pockets in higher elevations and warmer urban centers.
Mid and Late Week Weather
High pressure will pass overhead Wednesday and Thursday, delivering quiet weather for a couple more days.
Like Tuesday, there is a very small chance for a brief, stray shower on Wednesday. Most, if not all, of the area will ultimately stay dry. Even if it did rain, it would be very light and last only moments.
Winds will remain light from the north, but despite that, temperatures will continue to increase. Highs on Wednesday will be in the upper 70s and low 80s. Dewpoints may creep up to or slightly above 60 degrees.
Thursday is looking dry, devoid even of the small chances for rain present on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will level out with highs around 80 degrees again.
Most of Friday, too, looks dry with highs near or just above 80 degrees. At some point late in the day or overnight, our next weather maker will slowly push into the area with some showers and thunderstorms.
The weekend is looking wet with numerous showers and thunderstorms, both Saturday and Sunday. Humidity levels will come up and some localized downpours may be possible.
Temperatures will take a hit with the clouds and rain, sticking to the 70s through the weekend.
Unsettled weather will remain through much of the first part of next week as the atmospheric pattern slows down, causing low pressure to linger over the region.
