Cold Front
It will be hot and humid today before a cold front moves through early Wednesday, sending temperatures back again.
Quiet weather dominates our region again this morning with high pressure continuing to keep a firm grip on the region. However, some changes are afoot.
Sunshine will mix with clouds later this morning, as usual. Light south and southwest winds will join in, helping push temperatures into the mid and locally upper 80s. A few urban centers may even push 90 degrees this afternoon.
Dewpoints will be muggy, reaching the mid 60s.
There is a band of thunderstorms this morning over Michigan, left over activity from Minnesota and Wisconsin last night. The models this morning are, generally speaking, missing this area completely.
While I do still expect it to diminish and dissipate this morning, some of the left-over energy in the atmosphere will push into our region late this afternoon. I could see a few showers and storms popping as a result, particularly west of Seneca Lake.
Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected overnight as a cold front approaches from the north. Not all areas will necessarily see rain, though.
Expect a very warm, muggy night with lows around 70 degrees.
The cold front should move through Wednesday morning, possibly with a few more showers and thunderstorms. The later the front delays, the greater the chances for rain and storms.
By noon, the front should be heading south, our rain chances will diminish, and winds will turn to the north and northwest.
Cooler, less humid air will move in, and many areas will only see highs in the mid and upper 70s.
A Bit Unsettled
Thursday should be a dry and quiet day between weather systems. High pressure will slide by to our north, keeping winds light and variable and temperatures down.
Look for morning lows in the upper 50s with afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
As the high moves off the New England coast, a strong low will develop over Canada, north of the Great Lakes.
This transition in influence may be enough to touch of some scattered showers as early as dawn Friday, with a few additional showers possible throughout the day.
It does not look like a washout, though, with plenty of dry time.
Winds will turn to the south and increase to near 10 mph, but temperatures will only respond by adding a few degrees with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.
The best chance for more widespread showers and storms will be Friday night into Saturday, but the fine details remain unknown at this time. It is likely that a good portion of the day on Saturday will probably end up dry.
Sunday currently looks like the pick day of the holiday weekend with sun and clouds and highs near 80 degrees.
Monday, however, isn’t looking the best for outdoor plans. Showers and cool temperatures are expected with highs possibly not escaping the 60s.
Temperatures will bottom out on Tuesday with mid 60s before a quiet and milder second half of next week.
