High Pressure
A strong area of high pressure remains overhead, leading to another chilly start to the day.
As the day goes on, the center of the high will slowly drift eastward, allowing a very light south and southeast wind to develop.
The high pressure will suppress nearly all cloud growth today, so there will be nothing to inhibit the sunshine.
Temperatures will rise steadily this morning as a result and most areas should be into the mid and upper 70s this afternoon. Only a few of the higher elevations will stay under 75 degrees.
South winds will increase slightly tonight with speeds around 5 mph. Skies will remain clear overnight, but it will not be as cold thanks to the southerly flow.
Most areas should stay between 50-55 degrees, though there will certainly be pockets throughout the southern half of the region that dip into the 40s once again. However, temperatures below 45 degrees are unlikely.
There will be very little change in the weather tomorrow, with sun-filled skies, few if any clouds, and light south and southeast winds.
Highs on Thursday will be in the mid and upper 70s with a few low 80s showing up near Rochester, the Genesee Valley, and near Syracuse. Higher elevations will manage to be near 75 degrees.
Temperatures should be in the 50s throughout the area Thursday night, with southerly winds increasing slightly. Wind speeds by Friday will be around 10 mph.
Friday will start clear, but some thin clouds will start to move in during the day. The clouds will thicken in the afternoon but should still allow at least a little sun to shine through.
Friday’s high temperatures should be within a degree or two of Thursday’s highs.
Weekend Rain
A slow-moving front will push eastward into the Finger Lakes on Saturday.
While the fine details of the timing will need to be resolved over the coming days, the expected arrival time continues to trend later and later.
The morning hours now look mostly dry, with a slow west to eat progress during the afternoon. Some far eastern areas may not see rain until late in the day.
The rain will take a couple hours to pass and may be accompanied by some thundery downpours. Severe weather and flooding are not expected to be issues, though.
Winds will be blustery ahead of the rain, still from the south, with gusts as high as 35-40 mph.
Another shot of cool air will quickly move in behind the front as winds turn to the west and southwest. By Sunday morning, temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s.
Sunday will have a few stray showers here and there, but for the most part, will be dry. Temperatures will only manage the mid 60s with a few higher elevations struggling to even reach 60 degrees.
Monday morning will start in the 40s with a few lake effect rain showers, mainly near Lake Ontario. Skies will turn sunny by the afternoon with highs sticking to the 60s.
Most of next week looks quiet and sunny, with temperatures once again slowly moderating back into the upper half of the 70s.
