Weekend Weather Update
While lake effect snow will be an issue for those traveling north or southwest out of the Finger Lakes region, the weather locally will be rather quiet through the holiday weekend.
For the latest on the lake effect snow south of Watertown and south of Buffalo this weekend, I highly recommend the National Weather Service in Buffalo, which covers both areas, and in particular, their Winter Weather page.
For the Finger Lakes, we will mostly see some occasional snow showers, mainly Friday and late Sunday night.
The snow showers will be off and on across roughly the southern half of the region on Friday. Little to no accumulation is expected.
Snow on Saturday should be limited to a few stray flurries. Same with the daytime hours on Sunday.
Sunday night, snow showers off Lake Ontario may drift south into the area and continue into Monday. Only minor accumulations are expected.
It will be chilly, though. Highs Friday will generally be in the mid and upper 30s, but Saturday and Sunday will both see low and mid 30s with pockets of upper 20s for highs. Overnight temperatures will be well into the 20s with locally 10s.
Steady southwest winds will blow throughout the weekend with speeds of 10-15 mph. Occasional gusts may locally reach 30 mph, especially in the northwestern quadrant of the region.
A quick look at next week’s weather shows some lake effect snow showers Monday and possibly Tuesday, followed by some widespread light snow on Wednesday. Accumulations look limited to an inch or two for most areas. Temperatures will remain cool with daily highs in the 30s.
