Mid-Week Warmth

After a cool day yesterday, warm air is set to move back in for a few days.

High pressure over the area this morning will slide east today. Meanwhile, another low pressure system is developing over the middle of the nation.

Southerly flow between these two systems will push the warm air back to the north and into our area.

Skies will remain mostly sunny today with the high pressure still in firm control of our weather.

Aided by a light south wind, the sun will drive temperatures up into the mid and upper 50s this afternoon. A few places will likely be near or even above 60 degrees.

The south wind will persist through tonight with some scattered clouds. It will be a warmer night as a result, with lows generally in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Sunshine will mix with clouds Wednesday morning, but the clouds should win out by the afternoon.

Winds will be stronger tomorrow as well, with gusts increasing to over 30 mph in the afternoon.

Nonetheless, temperatures will continue to rise. Even higher elevations should be at or above 65 degrees, and some of the typically warmer areas around Dansville, Rochester, and Syracuse could hit 70 degrees.

Wednesday night will stick to the upper 40s for lows, helping Thursday get off to a warm start.

Temperatures will not be quite as warm on Thursday as a cold front moves through with some scattered showers, but many areas will still be around 60 degrees for a high.

It will also remain breezy Wednesday night into Thursday.

Prolonged Cooler Weather

Cooler air will move in behind the cold front on Thursday, ushering in a more stable and cooler temperature pattern. These will probably end up being the last 60-degree days in March, and even getting deep into the 50s may become a challenge.

Friday will be mostly sunny but with highs in the low and mid 40s. Winds will continue to be blustery, now from the northwest. The strongest winds will be before sunrise, with a gradual drop in wind speeds through the day.

Another small system will pass through on Saturday. Afternoon highs will end up around 50 degrees with scattered showers. Some snow may mix in late as temperatures drop.

Sunday looks quiet with morning temperatures in the mid 20s and afternoon highs in the low 40s. There could be a few lake effect snow showers Saturday night that linger into early Sunday, but the confidence is low at this time.

Monday will go back to some rain showers with a small bump in temperatures. Rain may linger into Tuesday as well.

The middle of next week will likely have temperatures in the 30s to perhaps low 40s. Some lake effect snow showers may be possible, especially during the nighttime hours.

As we approach the final days of March toward next weekend, temperatures may start to turn milder again, but the spread of possibilities showing on the models is large, so confidence is very low at this time.
