Mid Week Weather
An area of high pressure has built into the area behind yesterday’s snowy low pressure system.
Skies are starting mostly sunny for the majority of the region. Sunshine will continue throughout the day, but fair weather and thin clouds will mix in from the late morning through the afternoon.
Winds will be lighter today than yesterday, coming from the west-northwest at around 10 mph. Top gusts should be under 25 mph. Winds will become calm for a time this evening.
Temperatures will start to make a rebound as well, with most areas getting near or above 40 degrees today. Some higher elevations, especially in the eastern Finger Lakes, will probably stick to the upper 30s.
Clear skies this evening will give way to clouds overnight. Temperatures may drop into the 20s for a time this evening but will come back up a couple degrees overnight to near 30 degrees as a light southeast wind becomes established.
Precipitation will slowly build in from the southwest tomorrow morning. There is some question how quickly this happens, and some more northern and eastern areas may end up dry most or all of the morning.
If precipitation does move in a bit faster, some areas may see it start as a bit of snow before turning to rain.
Steady rain is expected once it begins, persisting for the rest of the daytime hours, with showers lingering into the evening and overnight.
Southeast winds will increase slightly but gusts will remain under 30 mph.
High temperatures on Thursday will be in the low and mid 40s. Overnight lows will dip back to the mid 30s as precipitation continues to slowly taper off.

Cool and Unsettled to Dry and Mild
Scattered showers will be possible at almost any time on Friday but should stay hit-or-miss. Most of the time, it will not be raining in any given spot.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy with light southeast winds. Highs will likely be a couple degrees higher than Thursday with mid and upper 40s.
Precipitation will build back in from the south Friday night, though there are some uncertainties in how far north it makes it.
Most areas will see rain, but the higher elevations of the Southern Tier will need to monitor for the potential for snow, possibly accumulating.
Precipitation will become all rain during the day and gradually taper off to light showers. Temperatures will be similar to Thursday and a bit cooler than Friday, with highs in the low and mid 40s.
Behind this system, high pressure will move in and take control of the weather for a few days.
Sunday should have clouds and some breaks of sun. Winds will be from the north, but highs should still make it into the 50s.
Monday looks like the warmest upcoming day with highs into the 60s. Expect lots of sunshine, though some clouds will mix in from time to time.
Temperatures will take a step back on Tuesday with highs returning to the 50s. A stray shower cannot be ruled out, but most areas look dry at this time.
The middle of next week will bring another shot of cool air with highs Wednesday possibly sticking to the 30s with some rain and snow showers.
It should be a quick rebound to the 50s by the weekend with a potential for warmer air than that the following week.
