Late Week Weather Forecast
High pressure has built into the region, replacing yesterday’s snow with sun-filled skies.
Skies will remain mostly sunny throughout the day today. Only a few stray thin clouds are expected here and there.
The center of this high pressure will move from the Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic today, keeping our winds coming from the northwest. Wind speeds will be much lighter than yesterday, with speeds near or under 10 mph and top gusts near or slightly over 20 mph.
Despite the northwesterly flow, the abundance of sunshine will help temperatures start to climb today. Low and mid 50s will be widespread across the area, with a few upper 40s in higher elevations in the far west and far eastern parts of the region.
Winds will be calm this evening, then turn to the south overnight. Skies will remain clear until some clouds build in after midnight.
Friday will start with temperatures in the 35-40 degree range. Southerly winds will become strong after sunrise, helping push temperatures up.
Afternoon highs will be between 65-70 degrees for most of the region. A few of the typically warmer valley locations across the Southern Tier have a shot at the low 70s.
Skies will be cloudier than today. There is a chance for a few rain showers, but most of the activity will stay north of the region. Any rain that does fall should be relatively light and brief, and some areas will not see any at all.
Winds will become blustery with speeds around 15 mph and occasional gusts over 30 mph. Similar wind speeds can be expected Friday night with a slight turn to the southwest.

Weather This Weekend, Next Week
Temperatures will remain very warm through Friday night, mainly sticking in the low 60s. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible, particularly during the predawn hours and into very early Saturday morning.
Temperatures will rise a handful of degrees on Saturday, resulting in most areas breaking into the 70s for a time. However, a cold front will be moving through, so temperatures will start to dip a bit during the afternoon.
Additional rain showers will be possible off and on throughout Saturday. It should not be a washout of a day, and some areas may again manage to stay dry for at least the majority of the day.
Winds will end up coming from the northwest by evening. Northwesterly flow will persist into Sunday, but will become weaker as the day goes on. Light winds are expected for the afternoon and nearly calm winds by evening.
No precipitation is expected on Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will take a hit behind the cold front, starting off near 40 degrees and peaking in the low 50s. Sunday night will see temperatures dip into the mid 30s.
Mild temperatures will move right back in with highs in the low 60s on Monday. There will be a chance for a few stray showers and maybe a rumble of thunder.
Tuesday is looking dry and sunny with highs sticking around 60 degrees.
While less certain, Wednesday is also looking dry at this point with highs several degrees warmer than Tuesday.
Some showers will be possible sometime late next week, but the responsible weather system does not look too impressive, so rainfall amounts will likely remain light.
There will also be a lack of cool air behind that system with highs generally remaining near or above 60 degrees most days for the rest of April.
