Early Weekend Weather
High pressure moved through the area yesterday and is now centered off the coast of the Mid-Atlantic.
Meanwhile, an area of low pressure is moving through the Midwest and into the Great Lakes. A broad area of southerly flow between these systems will push temperatures up across our area.
South winds will increase quickly this morning, reaching speeds around 15 mph for the remainder of the day. A few gusts over 30 mph are possible.
Afternoon highs will jump all the way to the upper 60s with pockets of low 70s. Only a few higher elevations will stay in the mid 60s.
Sunshine will filter through thin clouds and mix with some patches of thicker clouds. Precipitation today is a bit uncertain, but will most likely come in the form of some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon.
As a general rule, the further west, the greater the chances for rain today. Even out west, not all areas will get wet, though.
The evening and most of the overnight hours will be quiet. Clouds will be plentiful and south and southwest winds will persist. It will be very warm with most areas hovering in the low and mid 60s through the overnight.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms will be possible toward sunrise and into early Saturday morning. The chances for rain and thunder are greater with this round than with this afternoon’s activity.
After a lull in the precipitation during the late morning, additional showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will pop up during the afternoon. The Southern Tier will have the best chance of experiencing a thunderstorm.
After starting so warm, it will not take much for temperatures to poke into the low 70s by midday. Temperatures should start to slip a bit during the afternoon as winds turn to the west and eventually northwest.

Cooler Sunday, Then More Mild Weather
Temperatures will fall all the way to the mid 30s by Sunday morning with a steady northwest wind overnight.
Skies should become partly to mostly clear during the overnight and into early Sunday morning. Fair weather clouds will quickly bubble up during the morning hours and remain in place throughout the day. At times, skies may turn mostly cloudy.
No rain is expected on Sunday and winds will gradually weaken as they become more northerly. Afternoon highs will range through the 50s with the Southern Tier warmest and areas north of I-90 coolest. Right along the shore of Lake Ontario, temperatures may not escape the 40s.
Temperatures Sunday night will retreat back into the mid 30s, but milder air will start to push back in on Monday.
As the warmer air comes in, a few scattered showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder will be possible. Most areas will see little to no rain, though.
Highs on Monday will reach the mid 60s. Monday night’s temperatures will stay near 50 degrees with additional chances for rain showers.
A few clouds may linger into Tuesday morning, but most of the day will turn out sunny and quiet. Highs will be around 60 degrees.
Sun and clouds are most likely on Wednesday with an increasing chance for showers into Thursday. Temperatures will remain warm with highs in the 60s to near 70 degrees.
No major changes to this pattern are expected as we close out April and head into May with generally warm temperatures and sunny, quiet days mixing with showery ones.
