Changing Weather
Severe thunderstorms ahead of a cold front produced corridors of damage across the Finger Lakes yesterday and last night.
The front has since moved through, allowing cooler air in for a day.
Temperatures are starting out in the upper 30s and low 40s this morning with clouds in some areas and sun in others.
As the morning goes on, low thick clouds will diminish, but some high, thin clouds will persist.
The afternoon should be a mix of sunshine and these thinner clouds. No precipitation will fall and winds will not be very strong.
It will be much cooler today, with highs 25-30 degrees cooler than yesterday.
Some areas across the Southern Tier may make it into the 60s, but most of the region will be locked into the 50s. Near Lake Ontario, highs will only be in the upper 40s thanks to the northwest breeze coming off the cool lake waters.
Thin clouds will linger tonight and into early Thursday, becoming more widespread for a time before scaling back some during the early afternoon Thursday.
Winds will swing around to the south Thursday morning with speeds near or slightly over 10 mph by the afternoon.
Temperatures will start the day cool with lows in the mid and upper 30s, but afternoon highs will jump all the way to the low 70s.
Late in the day, showers and perhaps some thunderstorms will move back into the region. The thunderstorm threat seems to be trending eastward on the models, so some stronger storms cannot be totally ruled out, especially in the western Finger Lakes.
While it should not end up like yesterday, it is something I will be keeping a close eye on, of course.
Last Day!
As April comes to a close, so too will the Spring 2025 Fund Drive.
The Fund Drive has been a successful first step in bringing FLX Weather back to financial health.
Thank you to all my donors, new and old, monthly and one-time. Your support truly means the world to me and my family.
There is still much work to be done to get FLX Weather where it needs to be as a mature, stable business. This will likely be a multi-year process, but the prospects of what we can accomplish together are thrilling. I have literally had trouble sleeping for the last week or two because of my excitement and the flood of ideas going through my head!
While I have been forecasting the weather in our region daily for almost 20 years already… I feel like we are just getting started!
Join the team today and together we can continue to revolutionize independent local weather forecasting!

Unsettled Weather
The weather system responsible for the showers and potential storms late Thursday will continue to slowly move through on Friday.
Additional rain showers are likely, and some late morning or midday thunderstorms may also be possible. These do not look severe.
Temperatures will remain warm on Friday, with highs likely reaching the 70s again after a mild start around 60 degrees. How warm it gets may depend on how much rain there is.
Rain will be likely on Saturday, possibly turning widespread at times.
Temperatures will retreat again with highs mainly in the 50s.
The weather becomes quite uncertain beyond that, with high pressure to our northeast and low pressure to the south.
The high will likely block the progression of the low, but the push and pull between these two systems is uncertain.
That means rain will be possible Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, but highly uncertain. There will not be a lot of separation between a rainy day and a sunny one.
Temperatures will also be influenced by this pattern, with more sun resulting in warmer air, while clouds and showers will keep it cooler.
More unsettled weather is likely for the middle of next week with temperatures mainly sticking to the 60s.
