Weekend Weather Forecast

A small area of high pressure is passing through the area Friday morning, but a strong coastal low will turn our weather cool and unsettled for the weekend.

Sunshine, mixing with some clouds at times, will continue this morning as the high pressure passes through.

The sun and a light westerly flow will help temperatures climb into the low and mid 70s this afternoon.

However, clouds will increase as low pressure moves through the Ohio River Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic.

A few showers around sunset are even possible across the Southern Tier, with rain chances increasing through the evening hours.

The best chance for rain will come during the overnight and into early Saturday morning. With low pressure strengthening along the coast of New Jersey, the southeastern half of the region will have the greater chances for steady rain.

As the low continues to strengthen and move northeast over Connecticut Saturday morning, the steady precipitation will be pulled in closer to low, moving out of our area.

Gusty northwest winds will develop with speeds around 15 mph and gusts occasionally over 30 mph.

Skies will remain cloudy with scattered showers and areas of drizzle throughout the day.

Temperatures will be nearly 20 degrees cooler tomorrow with most areas in the mid and upper 50s. Only a few warm pockets, mainly in the Southern Tier, will manage to reach 60 degrees.

Additional scattered showers and drizzly patches will persist Saturday night and throughout the day on Sunday.

Neither day will be a complete washout, but still, outdoor activities will be negatively impacted by the weather.

Sunday will be breezy and cool as well, with similar winds and temperatures as on Saturday.

Warm, Mainly Dry Next Week

High pressure will begin to work into the area Sunday night. Depending on how the cloud cover responds, some cold pockets could slip into the 30s. As a whole, though, Sunday night’s temperatures should mainly stay in the low and mid 40s.

Skies should turn mostly sunny on Monday, though a few thin clouds may be around, especially early on. Winds will be light, starting from the southwest but ending from the northwest.

Temperatures will start to recover from the chilly weekend with highs in the upper 60s.

Warm air will continue to build in, with lows Monday night in the upper 40s.

Tuesday will be another mostly sunny day with highs jumping at least to the mid 70s. Wednesday should be even warmer, with many areas breaking into the 80s.

There are some questions about the cloud cover on Wednesday, but sunshine should still be plentiful. Temperatures could also get even warmer.

Unsettled weather looks possible on Thursday. This will be the main chance for rain next week. It remains too early to tell how this may evolve. Despite the warm weather, thunderstorm chances at this point look low.

A few stray showers may linger early Friday before a new high pressure system builds in. This will give us a chance at a dry weekend for a change.

Temperatures will remain warm in the 70s or occasionally 80s through next weekend and into the following week.
