Quieter Weather
The atmosphere will give our region a much needed break, at least for a few days.
Lingering rain showers associated with last night’s weather system are lingering over the eastern Finger Lakes early this morning. Meanwhile, to the west, clouds are breaking up.
Much of the day will have a mix of sun and small clouds. A few more stray showers may pop up this afternoon. Anything that falls should be brief, with the eastern half of the region the most favored.
There will be some haze from wildfire smoke passing through, but air quality impacts should not be too great with the smoke spread throughout the atmosphere.
A few places may see some periods where the Air Quality Index makes it above 100 and into the Orange classification, but for the most part, I am expecting Green and Yellow with AQI under 100.
Winds will be from the southwest this morning, turning to the west and northwest this afternoon. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph.
Afternoon highs will average out in the mid 70s with a few warmer valley locations in the Southern Tier and a few cooler higher elevations.
Skies should be mostly clear and moonlit tonight with lows in the mid 50s.
Wednesday also looks quiet with a mix of sun and clouds.
Winds will be from the southwest and west with speeds around or slightly above 10 mph. Afternoon highs should be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Skies will start clear Wednesday night, but a few clouds and perhaps a stray shower will be possible overnight. Lows will be around 60 degrees.

Late Week, Weekend Rain Chances
The chance for rain will return for the late week and weekend, likely extending into next week as well.
Neither Thursday nor Friday look like a washout, though there is still some uncertainty in exactly how these two days play out.
Thursday’s rain may be limited to some isolated to scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm during the afternoon hours. Friday may have a bit more widespread shower activity, but with individual showers brief and generally light.
A northwest flow will set up on Thursday, keeping highs in the mid 70s. Friday will be a couple degrees cooler, with most areas in the low 70s.
It is too early to tell how smoke may impact the area these days. Winds do look light on Friday, which could make surface level smoke more of a possibility.
Rain chances will increase on Saturday, and while it will probably not rain the whole day, there should be more frequent rain than on Thursday or Friday.
Clouds, showers, and a north wind will keep highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Confidence in the forecast details for Sunday and Monday are quite low and may depend at least partly on thunderstorm development elsewhere in the country. Both days will probably at least see some scattered showers about, if not heavier rain.
Temperatures should start to slowly trend back up, with highs returning to the upper 70s and low 80s by the middle of next week.
The increase in temperatures and humidity will increase our chances for thunderstorms as well as the rainy pattern continues.

Good morning Drew, when does the pattern shift?

Hi Jason. I wish I had good news for you… but I’m not seeing anything different for at least the next couple weeks.
